Gabby the motorhome - the car with no name was parked up on a rather full car park at Dudmaston Hall. We had decided to come out and drive one hour and fifteen minutes to see the hall owned by the National Trust and the galleries which were full of what I misread as Mattise paintings and Moore sculptures . We had taken a lot longer than one hour and fifteen minutes to get her as the car with no name was running on petrol fumes and we needed to call into a local garage to fill him up otherwise we were going nowhere . We also had to put in a little side trip to drop a birthday card off for daughter as her birthday falls whilst we on holiday . When we arrived after ... read more

With every trip there is always an early get up at some point, this year's was spectacularly early as we caught the half seven ferry back to Liverpool (sad to be leaving the isle of man but frankly dazed enough to let it pass as we got to the port at half six) On board Seth instantly made friends with the family sharing our table (pretty much interrogating the mum of the group so we now know her birthday, where she's from, where she's going and bizarrely how many teeth she and her two kids have ?) fortunately he and the seven year old girl hit it off and amused each other for the rest of the journey. Tiredness hit and I dozed, head on arms, at the table. When I was rudely awaken by Seth, ... read more

Railway Day - What nostalgia. Where can you start? The memories come flooding back when you were a child of the railway age. The platforms with their diamond shaped blue brick paving - the same paving my gran used for her garden paths. Milk churns waiting to be shipped from the farm to the nearest town using the train. An old fashioned ticket office brown oak panelled with small peephole window. Old fashioned green cardboard tickets and a collection of railway memorabilia. Bicycles leaned up against a wall and liveried guards, porters and engine drivers. What fun to be transported back to pre- Beeching days. Mr Beeching eat your heart out. You tried to kill off steam and the railways and just look what a legacy you left. Our first stop the buffet car capaccinos and ... read more

Suzy the motorhome is excited - she is off on the road again. The first trip of the season. This time last year she was just a twinkle in our eyes but now she is part of the family and we do love her. Suzy has 130 horses beneath her bonnet although Sion cannot work out how they get under the bonnet as he cannot find them even if he looks very hard. Suzy is behaving a little like the horses at a horse race waiting for the race to begin. And tomorrow we are off. Bridgnorth and Ludlow here we come. But guess what – just as we are due to go I get the mother of all colds. I have been brewing something for a week or so and yesterday out in the cold ... read more

It rained overnight and it is so much cooler today (Sunday) that it was a very pleasant days walking. I was only meant to do 4 miles and have half a day but since it was so nice I carried on all the way to Bridgnorth. I had a very relaxing lunchtime break and clambered out onto a rock in the Severn and dangled my feet in the cool water for an hour, absolute bliss! It was such a different day to yesterday I realised how much the weather effects me, 4-5 degrees cooler today and a bit of a breeze and walking becomes a nice thing to do again! Zita is coming to visit me tomorrow and walk with me for a day but since I have walked all the way to Bridgnorth today I ... read more
