Whilst still being very hungover from the night before, TC phoned to say that the bike shop had contacted him earlier saying that the bikes were ready to be collected. I was quite surprised the first time i saw the bikes. I felt that we had managed to get our hands on a decent bit of kit for a very reasonable price. As all 3 of us were buying bikes at the same time, the bike shop, Ace Cycles, said they would cut the price down as well as include pannier racks and the fitting of them for free. Harrogate and Ripley Castle After meeting some new people (several Canadians and a Californian), we ventured north of Leeds via train on Saturday at noon. Meeting at the Leeds train station, we bought a return ticket for ~5 pounds. The short train ride took us to the town of Harrogate. After arriving there, we promptly bought bus tickets to take us to the Castle and Gardens at Ripley. Upon arrival, we noticed the quaint town and the Ripley Castle, surrounded by a beautiful landscape. The castle belongs to the Ingleby family and it dates back 700 years. The castle was truly magnificent, however, photography was discouraged by the tour guide. There was also a garden and magnificent fields surrounding the castle. Taken pictures are provided. Hello! I have just set up this travel blog so we can update everyone on our news as we travel. Setting off on the 16th of January we are heading away from home for 4 months! Thought I might write a quick entry on how we are settling into Yorkshire life for all our pals in London. We've been in our flat in Harrogate for 3 weeks now and still enjoying the novelty of driving to work, leaving the office before 6.30 at night (sometimes leaving time starts with a '5'!) and being amoungst hills, greenery, dogs and breathing fresh air. Harrogate is lovely and much bigger than we both thought. Our flat is not is the swankiest area but is 2 minutes walk from the high street and station. There are loads of restaurants, so far our favourites being a lovely Italian called Sasso and a wine bar called Bowyers which does a steak and wine special on a Thursday night. In the coming months (september) i'll visit South America for the first time with a few friends, we'll be travelling to Argentina, Peru and Bolivia. we've done all the preparations necessary and I look forward to it. One of the conundrums is deciding how to spend while abroad, in the past i've opted for cash but that's risky, there debit cards but some UK banks including mine charge you a fee every time you use your debit card abroad, credit cards, am not sure whether they charge you but also I do not want to pay interest. enter prepaid credit cards, these are similar to credit cards or debit cards but are more like gift vouchers, you must deposit the money and there's interest to pay.
