Quite an uneventful week since the last post, lots of cycling. First of all the bike's great, I'm beginning to become very attached to it as well as gaining more confidence in riding it. I have kind of updated my cycling gear a bit since my first ride. I purchased some cycling shorts which really help to improve comfort on the seat, as well as use sunglasses to help avoid catching bugs in my eyes when traveling at speeds and Ive fixed a water bottle holder to the bike. Most of the routes i have taken have been around where i live in Huby, though I'm afraid i wasn't able to take the camera out on a few occasions as i had nowhere to store it. So the photos that have been taken are from no ... read more

As i said on yesterday's post, it would be likely that if the weather's nice il try and do a few miles on my new bike. Infact the weather was just as nice as the day before, i think that those long bleak days are behind us now for the year, with summer now fast approaching. So i got round to having today's lunch, a bit of a Saturday classic, smoked salmon fillets with plenty of salad. As the weather was so nice, we decided to eat outside for the first time this year. With lunch behind me i decided to go work it off with a few miles cycle up to the nearby rock formation, which is known locally as Almscliffe Crag. Its only a short 15 to 20 minute cycle to the lane that ... read more

Whilst still being very hungover from the night before, TC phoned to say that the bike shop had contacted him earlier saying that the bikes were ready to be collected. I was quite surprised the first time i saw the bikes. I felt that we had managed to get our hands on a decent bit of kit for a very reasonable price. As all 3 of us were buying bikes at the same time, the bike shop, Ace Cycles, said they would cut the price down as well as include pannier racks and the fitting of them for free. The weather today was really nice, not too hot, but a nice blowing breeze and few clouds in the sky. So after doing the golden hand shake with the guys at the bike shop the 3 of ... read more

This is just going to be kept fairly short. I'm planning on, where possible, writing a travel blog on the various things that i come across on both the preparation towards my travels as well as the actual trip itself. The idea for the trip came about as one of the other travelers I'm going along with suggested organizing a excursion that allowed for money to be raised for charity through completing a challenge. The challenge was decided that the trip would be completed by using bicycles to cover around 1000 miles worth of Icelandic terrain in just over 8 weeks. The 2 other buddies that are coming along with me on this trip are Tom (TC), who is a seasoned traveler and also Chris (Noddy). We are hoping to raise in total £1000 for: - ... read more
