Wednesday night, UEA's International Students Society (ISS for short) hosted an enormous party at a club called "Indulge" in the heart of Norwich. At first, I was under the impression that this would be a small/maybe medium-sized gathering of study abroad students. No, sir. There were hundreds of students; it was crazy and so fun! We met in The Square on campus (see photo) and took numerous buses together to Norwich. When my friends and I got to The Square, I was like, "Okay...let's find the ISS group." Turns out that everyone in The Square was there for the ISS party. In the midst of the hundreds of people, I lost my orientation-group friends, but it turned out to be really cool because I met some really interesting people from around the world. After a slow start to our day, we headed out to Castle Acre Priory, which is about 20 miles away from mom's house. When we arrived at Castle Acre, we parked (a lot farther away than we needed to) and walked to waht we thought was the Priory. It wasn't. It was a church. So, after walking through the cemetary and seeing the actual Priory off in the distance, we made our way there. Joey and I bought an overseas visitors pass for 2 people for 43 pounds. The Priory is a bunch of ruins now, but you can still tell how beautiful it once was. Hi Everyone, thought I'd start off the blog letting you all know about the safari I went on the other day down Regent Road. Saw 4 of the Big 5, often spotted in the summer months frequenting Yarmouth seafront. Cockneys, Brummies, overweight fellow with ice cream dripping onto his ill fitting wife beater and Keith Miller from Eastenders. Unfortunately we didn't catch a glimpse of the teenage mother with 5 children each of different ethnic origin, but still a good day. Next Stop, Heathrow.... read more

With a week until I leave to catch my flight to Bratislava, I'm now making the final preparations for my journey. I've booked the hotels, got all the rail tickets I need, and now find myself with no (British) money. I have maps of most places, and thankfully half of the hostels/hotels are central in the cities and won't take much finding, but when they do, I'll be ready with a whole folder full of maps! .. ok, so taking a folder might not be the wisest idea in the world, but it keeps things organised! Back home and on the Broads for the first time in what must be couple of years, I guess. Seemed really quiet to me, (the boat hire companies must be struggling). Even on a beautiful day we virtually had the place to ourselves. Makes for a better trip that way, so it was good news for us and I expect good news for the Broads too. Don't think I've ever seen terns diving on them before, or as many lily pads, so, maybe less traffic and the long running clean-up process really has improved the water quality. Things seem miles better than they did during the 80's, anyway, so make the most of it before the sea comes crashing in and ruins everything again.
