Kelley had no idea where we were taking him. All he got was a note telling him to turn up at the Euston Tap at 7pm along with two pairs of undies, photo ID, a toothbrush, and ten vomit bags. By the time I had arrived at the Euston Tap, the most of the stag crew had already shown up - Yohei the chief organiser (who you may remember from Granada), Andrew (who you may remember from Milan), blog débutante Wilson, and Kelley the stag himself (who regular readers of this blog should know by now). Our numbers were complete when we were joined by Hanson (who you may remember from the Peak District) and Francis aka Turtle (who was also with Kelley, Yohei and I in Granada) who was the last t... read more

Day 8&9; another early morning, keeping in mind this was not to be a relaxing holiday but one to see and do and that's what I'm doing. This morning we traveled north from Lancashire to the Lake District. We drove along the shores of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake. Today was the day for bus, train and boat transportation. We traveled by bus, caught an old steam engine to Haverthaite and then took a cruise along the northern coastline of Lake Windermere, the scenery was spectacular,a photographer's paradise. This is another area that inspired the Romantic poets including William Wordsworth. He is buried at St Oswald's church in Grasmere, we visited his grave and then had lunch in this cute little tourist village. After lunch we boarded the bus once more and headed for Scotland, first ... read more

Took Erin to Moscow Circus and what fun. We had picked up two vouchers from a store which read "discount 50%" offer. So we line up with two vouchers and asked for two seniors and child. The ticket person said the child would have to be full price because we had no voucher. A very kind lady next to us said she had a spare in her car and gave it to us. But wait there is more - she was one pound short for her tickets so I offered to pay the pound. No thanks, enjoy the circus. Nice lady. Well what a circus. Bought Erin pop corn, which was almost devoured before the show started. At interval bought a special light up butterfly wavey thing. Then an ice-cream (mind you it was a heat ... read more

Arrived here last Saturday and with great joy and open arms were met by the family. Had coffee or similar with Paul and Belinda while Erin was at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts). Apparently Paul McCartney (ex Beatle) has something to do with it. Sunday we drove to Manchester (Sale) for our church (ecclesia) and had a nice time. It was followed by a communal lunch and during this time we chatted with some lovely folks and even scored an invite to stay with a couple the night before we head to Scotland. Some may know Tom and Judith Griffiths as they have visited Adelaide in previous years. Monday was about taking Erin to school and visiting the model train store (Hattons) and yes the bag will have some extra goodies, but also they do ... read more

“Well...not quite a railway station. Lima Airport to be exact, waiting for our flight back home after 859 of the most amazing days I should ever hope to encounter in my life. With a sense of relief, excitement, melancholy and all manner of other emotions, it's on the shores of the Pacific Ocean that our time on the road has come to an end, or for now at the very least...” I wrote those words more than six months ago whilst waiting for our flight back to England. Despite making plans to travel further north through Ecuador and Columbia and into Central America, the weight of the relentless journey Amy and I had undertaken finally bested us back in Sucre in Bolivia, where we took the decision to return home. During the 859 days we spent ... read more

Jack Frost has made an unwelcome appearance. His icy tentacles have crawled all over the car windscreens turning them from glass to thick ice. His icy fingers have spilt white confetti like ice crystals over the lawns. All shining metallic silver in the thin watery December sunlight. Snow has fallen on the ski slopes of Scotland and could be on its way down the country towards us. Christmas is just round the corner. Town streets are festooned with lights. Some garish multicoloured light bulbs strung from light post to light post . Others more simple tiny star like lights twinkling through the christmas trees like a myriad of tiny stars. Shops are full of potential presents, all the trimmings for those presents and food for the festive season. Turkeys, stuffing, sprouts and Christmas puddings, mince pies and ... read more

We had a holiday booked in The Lake District and decided to break our journey up the M6 by stopping off in Liverpool for a few days. There is so much to do and see and we had a job to fill it all in during our 3 days. We started by visiting the Walker Art Gallery near to our hotel and what a collection they have. Pictures from 17th century right through to the 21st century including Rembrant, Monet, Turner and Hockney. On our first full day we walked down to the revitalised Albert Docks and went to Tate Liverpool top see the Turner, Monet and Twombly exhibition. What a delight and as stated in The Times "Three painters, three visions one triumph". Next on the agenda was the Beatles Museum and it certainly brought ... read more

So here we are guys! Our final week in Liverpool after spending a whole 4 months in one place. Fair effort from our point of view, as we seem to be getting into a wee bit of a habit lately of moving around every 4 or so days - difficult when you try and keep up with doing your washing. We have worked our butts off for a long time now and I can honestly say, yes, it is time for us to pull ourselves out of our comfort zones again and get back to our favourite way of life (NOTE: where the entirity of it is on your back). So this is us guys in blog form. It is through this that I can keep you updated on where we explore during the next 2 ... read more
