We decided to visit Lincoln on Saturday, 2 October. Mark had bought the advanced railway tickets and we caught the 8:10 express train from King's Cross. We transferred to the local train at Newark, and it brought us to Lincoln at 10:30. We didn't have the map but followed the crowds whom we believe would go to the same direction as us. Then, High Street came into our sight at the corner of St Mary Church. Following the High Street, we reached the High Bridge, the timber-framed building on the left hand and the waterside on the right hand. We walked past the Stonebow, the 15th century arch, and continued walking northwards. While walking uphill on Steep Hill, we found a number of charming timber-framed houses and brick buildings with oriel windows, e.g. Cardinal's Hat, the ... read more

First big decision before I leave in 2 weeks...what lego figure to get to go with 'the stig' to india? They will be hogging the camera space for many of the photos out there, and can't wait for a shot next to the taj mahal and a camel! I'm thinking maybe yoda, or where's wally, or indiana jones?...... read more

In the past nine months I have had the craziest whirlwind of fun and adventure, resulting in me having my best summer ever! This time last year, I had just begun my degree at the University of Lincoln and was planning on doing a summer camp programme the next summer. It wasn't until the next January, however, when I eventually took a deep breath and applied to be on BUNAC's Summer Camp USA programme. I had begun to apply with another well-known company, but I soon discovered that BUNAC was a lot cheaper. At first glance, the application form looked quite daunting- large white boxes that I had to fill with the right words- but on closer inspection, I discovered that I had the right words with which to fill those boxes, and my application grew ... read more

Tomorrow, at 9.30pm, me and Shaun will be heading off to Bangkok in Thailand on the beginning of our epic round the world tour (well almost)! My bags are all packed, and hopefully Shaun's all sorted too (I'm in Spalding and he's in Maidstone and we'll be meeting at the airport). After much deliberating on what to take it's all finally sorted. Although earlier today we hadn't sorted out our accommodation for when we actually arrive in Bangkok, I now have a confirmed reservation although I'm going to try some other places when we get there that were recommended and I liked the look of more - so who knows where we will be staying! This going away means that I'm going to miss out on watching my newborn niece Freya grow up for the first ... read more

Well.. Ive just this evening rediscovered my blog and photo sites from my trip to Australia in 2006 and have become very nostalgic! It's around about 2 and half years since I left there, which seems really strange to think! Looking back at all the things I wrote about and photos I took, I realised how much I had forgotten about the trip. It really was a fantastic time. I also forgot how many people followed my progress and left lovely comments! Anyway, I'm posting this in order that I don't lose track of the web addresses for the blogs and photos, as I had done until now. http://sarah-in-oz.blog.com/ - My blog for the whole of the trip from April through to July of 2006 http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e102/sarah-in-oz/ - First half of my photo uploads url=http://twiste... read more

All good things come to an end……… Well we are home safe and sound - no thefts or loss of our valuables and no need to claim on the health insurance. Heathrow was raining and a heavy grey sky when we landed. I had a definite feeling of “where can I get a ticket out of here”. However we were met by Dan and his girlfriend Manuela which was great and they drove us all the way home- then we saw friends the same evening and had more champagne in one day then the whole of the 10 months we have been away - next day to see more family and finally felt as though we were back. Then more friends welcomed us back. We are very lucky indeed and especially with our family. The Welcome ... read more

Well, I have left Carol snoring in bed to do the blog - partly because I have been told that it is early in the morning when the creative side of the brain works best, partly cos I was getting a headache from the noise. However what comes next is absolutely true. We have been getting the house ready to move (welcome to Ian and Maureen who are renting from us) and as part of that I have been going around tidying and emptying. There are lots of pennies and tuppences which I have been picking up to take to the bank (apologies for the rest of the queue for the half hour it took to get the money counted). So, I've been tootling around the rooms picking up coins and feeling jolly useful and putting ... read more
