So time marches on and we still haven't finished sorting out the house. I have been in the rapping mines (no not where they find the bip bop music) the wrapping mines and I have been wrapping the house. There is enough stuff to open a chain of shops - when I raised this with Carol it was apparently my fault - I can't remember the reason?!! Carol has spent most of the time re-packing her case to go away (wot -only one case!!!) and I see her from time to time when she asks me questions such as - "What does 20kg look like???" We have also spent a lot of time saying cheerio to friends and family who will miss enormously. However my liver will be able to take a well earned rest. Well ... read more

Well - it doesn't seem to have been a long time from making the decision to spend a year travelling the world to it being a week before we go. As I write this I can hear the early fireworks exploding outside. Carol has the whole of the travelling papers in front of her and I can just see the top of her head. I have now finished work for a year - many thanks to Xansa (or Steria as we are now) for allowing me to take a sabbatical - much appreciated. Well, that’s it! We’re back! Very tired, very skint and happy to be here, not! This morning we finished packing and had a last healthy breakfast. We then took a slow drive to the airport, which was only about 15 miles from our hotel. Fifteen days and nearly 2000 miles later I handed the car back to the rental company in one piece. There were a couple of times during the last 2 weeks when it could have been in more than one piece, particularly in Los Angeles, but luckily we came through unscathed. We had to remove shoes and belts to go through customs, and liquids and gels are still forbidden in large quantities, but we were processed quite quickly.
