In the 1800s, Whitstable had a huge boat industry;building, repairing and selling boats. But now it's just a big part of the history. It's a beautiful town, with a big rock beach, where you can find oyster shells and crabs. As we wandered through the town, there wfish seafood store and I decide to try an oyster. You should have seen my face, it looked as if I had just eaten something rotten. I put a lot of lemon juice on it, which helped, but I couldn't swallow it. It was too big and I didn't really like the texture. So, we continued on our route, just walking through the town. It's a cute little town, but it also has some big streets. We kept seeing big candy stores, with only candy in them. We saw ... read more

At Aunt Alice's we mostly talked and watched TV together. I played with the Lego I was generously given, and I caught up with writing. It was good to actually get to meet them instead of just talking to them over Skype. Around 1 o'clock Maureen would start to cook supper. They had a very different way of cooking supper. Maureen would finish cooking around 3 o'clock, and when people wanted to eat we would just heat it up in the microwave. i spent lots of my time playing with Brandy, the dog. I had a really nice time there and hopefully I will be able to go back soon. Talk to you Later Snake Wrangler signing out.... read more

IN ENGLISH Peckham to Whitstable, UK: 118 miles round trip - 6 May 2013 I (Nelly) had bought a new motorbike a week ago. A Honda CBF 500cc red. Naturally, on this beautiful sunny bank holiday Monday, it felt appropriate to ride out to the seaside for a proper test of my new bike. We chose to go to Whitstable as a close enough destination, and because we had never been there before. We mostly took the A2 road to the south east coast of England. We encountered quite a bit of traffic that slowed us down, but the ride was very enjoyable after all. One (sort of) panic moment when we stopped for a coffee late morning and my bike wouldn't start again! John checked it around, and it seemed to be a problem with ... read more

Dear Grace and Mag (my beautiful sisters...who my entries will be addressing from now on) Last night was my leaving party as you know...you were there. I had so much fun. Lots of people from all different areas of my life made the effort to come along, was so happy. My Uni girls, family, work friends, school friends and many more that I have grown up with. One thing everyone had in common though was lots of laughs, dancing and DRINKS!!! haha It all feels a bit surreal though because it was the last time I will see people for a little while last night but none of it is sinking in. I don't think it will until I'm actually on the plane which I am pleased about really or else I would probably be a ... read more

My bag is packed, and is actually liftable, which is nice. Looking at it, its amazing to think that everything I need for over 6 months is in there. Next time I write something on here, I will probably be 1000s of miles away. All take care while I am away. And come meet me any time if you fancy it! Keep me updated on your going-ons. Back in London, Kyle and I joined the Pattons, Briony and "Christmas Joe" on another trip out of the city to Whitstable for Alec's birthday (you cannot say the name of this town without sounding english). An hour or two south of London, Whitstable is oyster heaven, or rather oyster hell and oyster-lovers heaven. The town is right on the water with mud/sand flats for what seems like miles off shore, though it might just seem so because of the treacherous walking. The stoney beach actually has more shells than stones and we went down to add to the collection with our oyster feast. Birthday lunch was had at a lovely little restaurant, surprisingly gourmet given the size of the town. I had a chocolate desert served with whisky jelly! Good though it was, I don't ... read more

Christmas is over and I have received lots of presents for my travels, including a huge rucksack *this big*, a million different travel bits including a survival kit from my brother, Mark, and an SAS survival book from Simone (hopefully wont be needing them). Cory got me an awesome little leather book to put all my little ticket stubs and memories in (really nice thought - cheers!). Also got a spork (spoon/fork/knife all-in-one), inflatable pillow, clever little soap slices, poncho, an amazing quick-dry towel and even a travel Su Doku (thanks Andrew). There is probably some bits I forgot. 11 days of paid work remaining and then I'm off on the 17th January 2007 for about 6 1/2 months. My travel chum, Andrew, seems to be a seasoned traveller since exploring China this summer, but this ... read more

Well I finally made it to the UK! I took a bus last night at 9pm from Liege, Belgium, and got to London around 6am. The train to Whitstable left at 7:30, I got there around 10ish I think. I wandered until I found someone who could directions to the stree Alice's sister lives on. I walked there and met Esther and Jason and their two adorable kids, Harry (turned 9 today!) and William, who's 3 years old. They have all adopted me into their household for a couple days, and I think it will be a blast. The kids are full of energy and fun. William kept climbing up into my lap as I was trying to sort my pictures on the computer. I showed him what a map of Canada looked like and he ... read more
