Another week back at the Manor - this would usually be full of activities - earning my keep, etc. but there were THREE Drs on my Venice trip, who all said that I needed to fully rest and not talk for 2-3 days, otherwise I can't really expect to get better SO I have a week to sleep as much as possible and the challenge of a lifetime: DON'T TALK! Sunday head off to Bessels Green Baptist Church - really like it, think I'll go there again! Good sermon, thought provoking - but difficult going to a new church when can't really speak so don't really succeed that day! Monday & Tuesday however, are days of charades! Tuesday evening go to see Mamma Mia at the cinema - no idea what it was supposed to be ... read more

Saturday 5th July Woke up 7am to the sound of rain falling on the tents, which rather spoils our plan of cleaning them out properly and ensuring that they are ready to be put into storage for another year! Instead, everyone gets up slowly whilst we form a new plan of action, which is personal possessions and chairs onto the coach by 8am, when we'll have breakfast, then take everything down before prayer. 9.30am tractor ordered to take stuff to coach - works kind of to plan, but we finish prayer off on the coach! We're off just before 10am, which is perfect timing. Around 12.30 and fuel/lunch/toilet stop, and arrived at Eurotunnel early. Able to book an earlier shuttle, but we then had a few issues at immigration and were back on the same shuttle ... read more

To come, team training, a time of practical and spiritual preparation for the summer, based around the theme of being 'servant-hearted'! Philippians 2 (New Living Translation). See online Have the Attitude of Christ 1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, h... read more

I am one of those who never know the direction of my journey until I have almost arrived Ps 139 v 9 - 10 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Never have these words rung more true then now. I have seen God’s hand at work, particularly over the past 8 months - where I have had no idea what the next step will be. I have been deeply challenged with regards to laying down my life, and “seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you as well”. For months the heavens seemed silent in answer to my pleas for direction… ... read more

I have found adventure in flying, in world travel, in business and even close at hand. Adventure is a state of mind and spirit. Home sweet home. I finally have a place to unpack my suitcase and somewhere to legitimately call home, where I am now longer a squatter! The Otford Manor was built in 1920 by a man who was not too keen on people, and so built it very much like a rabbit warren. It has been used by various organizations over the years, but as of 20 years ago, has been the headquarters and offices from which Oakhall operates. Oakhall is an organization that has a variety of opportunities. It was started by Ian and Judy Mayo in 1960, when they decided to take their youth group away on an expedition - to ... read more

Made good time down to Otford Manor again, in time for the Oak Hall Summer Team Training Weekend - I’ve not been to one before and had no idea what to expect as I’d just noted the dates in my diary. Arrived 8.45pm, had my photo taken for the database, found my room, and picked up my manual full of useful information! An enjoyable (if tiring) weekend ensued, with worship sessions, thought-provoking sessions based around 1 Corinthians 15 - as members of Team, we are not on holiday and it will be hard work, there will be difficult times, but we have a great future to look forward to. Spiritually-focused sessions were interspersed with practical sessions, chances to chat and meet others, walks, and of course food! Having been one of the first up on the ... read more

Tuesday 20th Having spent the day on the ‘running your own business course’, with the last 2 days on finance (profit forecasting, etc.) - have a much better understanding of it, but we all know that maths is not really my thing, so brain is a little frazzled! So, from Basingstoke to Otford (near Sevenoaks) in Kent - in good time (the GPS kept me on target - and feels a lot safer now I have a holder attached to the windscreen, rather than my phone flying around on the seat!). Arrived at Otford Manor, home of Oakhall Expeditions, just after 6 - good timing, as this is dinner time (although with the amount of food on offer at the training course, wasn’t sure I was hungry!), so I got to meet quite a few people ... read more
