Glorious weather today. Blue sky all day. Wind still pretty evil but not quite as evil as it has been. Bob unloaded the scooter and we found our way up out of the campsite on the single track, very bumpy road then down into Folkestone, along to Sandbanks and on to Hythe. Not far and an easy ride to get us back into the scooter swing of things. We caught the 10.30 train on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. We were in an open carriage so kept our fleeces well zipped as advised by someone getting off who said she was frozen. At New Romney we alighted and visited the impressive model railway exhibition. Then we caught the next train along and stayed on to the end of the line at Dungeness, having crossed the ... read more

I've picked up my bike from West Sussex Motorcycle Hires and I'm ready to hit the road to meet Bart at the Eurotunnel... As soon as I can figure out how to find the Chunnel on the GPS. Not that I don't know how to use my GPS but you have to search by country and last time I looked there was no Eurotunnel in Canada. Now if I can only figure out this driving on the left...... read more

Geo: 51.0787, 1.17409Yup it does what it says on the tin. Only 5 mins from the CT. Vicky the check in manager was super helpful and friendly. Room prettty good but HOT! We puttered down the M20 only taking a slight detour towards The Dartford Tunnel as I was avidly listening to Cathy's stories about Football suicides....she also recorded a program about Horses in WW1 the other night which was particularly miserable. Any after a scenic tour of The Kent Weald we arrived at the hotel. Good room and very well kept but reminiscent of a well appointed care home. Arthur the whisky policeman has changed teams and now plays for Gin United. The bag of dry roasted peanuts has been attacked and once more we are looking forward to the onion rings and knickerbocker glory ... read more

The problem with me saying "lets go to New Zealand for a year, not plan anything & just see what happens" is that I'm just not that kinda girl. I'm a planner. Plus the fact it's been over a year since that was said and who could really resist?! Budget is tight too, hence the working holiday, so some planning is only sensible (*sigh*). Flights Lets play catch up. For anyone wanting to do New Zealand for as little money as possible my advice is this - spend ages looking for flights. I booked our flights in October/November 2010 in the end just before the supposed rise in flight prices. After months of faffing & doing online searches for flights, when the pressure was on - I picked up the phone. Dedicating a whole morning to ... read more

My friends took me for a walk today. Well actually, I chose it from four sea-view walks they had picked from a book of walks. We went to the url=https://www.discoveringbritain.org/activities/south-east-england/viewpoints/folkestone-warren-viewpoint.htmlFolkestone Warren. It wasn’t until after the walk that we got a clear explanation of the formation of a warren. Water gets into cracks in the chalk relatively close to the front of a cliff, and eventually the front breaks off, creating a new cliff face with a lot of rubble at the bottom. Trees and bushes grow in the rubble creating the warren. It’s a natural process that never stops. Steps have been taken to slow the erosion by the sea at the foot of the cliffs – at least to curtail damage to the rail line that runs at the bottom of the cliffs through ... read more
