Decisions. Decisions. We had just been to the North East for the Outlaw's milestone birthday, but the prospect of back to back home games - Saturday and Tuesday - was quite tempting. The continued wet December could scupper the idea - those in the know realise that despite recent drainage improvements, waterlogging is never very far off the radar. However, the statement by the Northern Premier League put paid to any wavering. Both games were postponed. It was nothing to do with water, although I suspect that the Saturday would have been anyway. No, financial infringements were at play. The "real" MUFC and their precarious monetary position were deemed to have broken League regulations - correctly it would appear, I might add - and the playing licence was withdrawn. The price of salvation? Guarantees of £120,000 ... read more

In the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023, I spent a few weeks at retreat centres in the UK for retreats and for volunteering, divided into three trips. The first one was a three-week trip in August and September 2022, and I participated in a one-week retreat at Adhisthana in Herefordshire, followed by a guest stay at the same centre, and then a ten-day retreat at Taraloka in Shropshire, Wales; the second one was a three-week volunteering assignment at Adhisthana in November and December 2022; and the third one was a on a ten-day retreat at Taraloka where I was on the team supporting the retreat leaders. Part 1: Retreats at Adhisthana and Taraloka I arrived at Colwall train station in the early afternoon of the 26th of August, after having travelled ... read more

Hi everyone We've just finished watching the royal wedding and it was a splendid occasion. The weather was fine and sunny at times which made it a much nicer event for the crowds. They were forecasting 600,000 people along the route but I'd be surprised if there weren't more than that. The pomp and pageantry was quite majestic and the bride's dress was stunning (as you all know). It was quite a contrast from Princess Diana's meringue dress. There were a few references to Princess Diana by the BBC correspondents but they didn't harp on about it. Helen, bless her bought some bunting that we put up as part of the celebration...you'll be able to see that in the photos. We also had union jack serviettes and paper plates. So it was a very British event! ... read more

Hi everyone We are now in Wellington Heath, Herefordshire with our dear friends Helen and Gavin. You know how it's very British to talk about the weather well I must tell you what's going on. It’s incredibly sunny and warm. Yes, I did say we are in England!! Yesterday it was 26 degrees....imagine that! It was warmer than Brisbane which was 22 degrees. The consequence of this is that there are a lot of very pale people (myself excepted) getting a few rays. Much to Peter's chagrin, I raided a few of the Ledbury op shops to buy some semi-summerish clothes. Peter restrained himself from saying you don't need those and how will we fit them into the suitcase. I think he's finally given up! This morning we did our pilgrimage to the butchers shop in ... read more

Short Night The clocks went forward tonight so not too much sleep. Not sure if either of the pillows he had bought yesterday was quite right. It's a bit like Goldilocks. The memory foam was a little small (but it would save space), the other one was too big (though it would probably compress with age). We are having a pillow review when we get home! We walked up the old railway line into the centre of Ledbury for a guided walk with the retiring chairman of the Civic Society. Found out a lot I didn't know but it was so COLD. As soon as he finished we rushed back to the Plume of Feathers for Sunday Lunch, only to find a couple of us who were half way through theirs as they had not completed ... read more

Not the Walk We opted out of the walk as we had done part of it last month and wanted to chill a bit. We had a slow start chatting to some of the other non-walkers, then set off to the centre of Ledbury with a few things to buy and remembered what an interesting place Ledbury is, some shops had closed since we were last there and the cafe in the cook shop/deli had closed. Coffee and cakes in the Internet Cafe that has a poet/story/song session once a month that we have never been to, but I thought was off the other way! Fairly successful with our shopping and walked back to the Rugby Club, the people on the walk had arrived back in Ledbury not too late for lunch. Unfortuneatly our Van was ... read more

List making I attempted to form a list for our first trip and that was pretty comprehensive. I deliberately missed out some things I should have taken. Water management is a question and which camping club is the best to join. Embarrassment Arrived at Ledbury Rugby Club and parked up in neat lines on car park. Some had taken to the grass, but they were staying longer and looked a bit too close to the action. The large puddle under our van was put down to overfilling the cold water tank........ I had done this at home on a slope so seemed a reasonable explanation. Over 25 Murvies due for the weekend, our first chance to compare and contrast. Warm welcome from all and invited Simon (Garf) and Jess (the other local owners who we knew ... read more
