March 31 – We’re Alive.....
Kirsten wakes me up.... It’s 6:30 am, we’re alive and we’ve made it to Southampton.
I rollover and mumble great, wake me up later for breakfast in a couple of hours.
Just like an alarm clock, Kirsten wakes me up fully dressed and ready to explore Southampton.
I rollout and crawl to the bathroom. Kirsten says I’ll be up on the LIDO deck waiting for you, the next sound I hear is the door slamming.
I’m half dressed, brushing my teeth and I hear the door opening. It’s Edwin, coming to clean the room. I swear he is living in our closet.
I finish dressing and head out the door, Goodbye Mr. Steve....
Kirsten in true form is waiting and ready to go, she has made me breakfast and lunch and is moving me along to the elevators.
I look at her and say “it’s raining” .... She whips out two umbrellas and ponchos and says SOOO!!!
Off the ship we go.... We jumped onto the shuttle to Southampton. It has a lot of museums, ships that have come and gone, Titanic, the Queen Mary,
the original city walls. Nice village however after an hour we are finishing our tour.
It has been raining on and off while we walked around, remember the storm... it found us.
So, Kirsten suggests we get on the bus and ride around the village. You know jump on jump off, sure I’m game.
Well, true to form while standing at the bus stop an older gentleman strikes up a conversation with me asking If was from America. I responded with what gave it away?!
My conversation was going nowhere when Kirsten asked where is this bus going? It’s going to Winchester, that’s where King Arthur’s round table is Love! Kirsten’s ears perked up, how far, about ¾ hour Love!
Kirsten immediately purchases two tickets to Winchester, after waiting 10 minutes the Number 1 bus arrives, we hop on and off we are to Winchester!
This is my first experience riding on the left side of the road, WHOA, this is weird. First the roads are narrow, I mean #$%@ skinny. We are up top, sitting in front row watching and it’s a crazy ride all the way to Winchester.
We arrive at
12 noon, my legs are a little wobbly, but it’s not raining. On the bus ride another gentleman recommended a restaurant that has the best Fish and Chips in Winchester.
Kirsten looks at me and I said oh yea, off we go and found Shoals. Our first Fish & Chips in England. Not, bad but I’ll be testing and reporting as we go. Also, the beer was good, but not as cold as I prefer but good.
We toured all over Winchester, the Great Hall where King Author’s round table is located and the Winchester Cathedral.
We also walked up High Street (Main Street in USA) where all the shops are located.
We visited another pub and had a beer before heading back to the bus station for our return trip to Southampton. Kids were all getting out of school, they all wear ties... just like in the Harry Potter movies. They were gathering at the bus station heading home, I felt like I was at Hogsworth, so funny....
We arrived back at Southampton, caught the shuttle to the ship. We get to stay an additional night on the ship since we arrived a day
early.
We had dinner, watched the show and bar hopped for our last night on the ship.
Tomorrow begins our vondering through England.
Good Night
