So we need to organise everything for our trip this weekend, but it’s a Friday night, and we’ve agreed to meet some girls for a night out. I work with one of the girls, and we’ve gone out with the same group before. The last time however, the Danish and myself were on our ways to being paralytic when they got there and having proceeded with reckless abandon on said path, we can’t remember too much about these lasses. So we’ll call them WorkGirl (whose name I know, but it wouldn’t be right to give the others nicknames and not her), BlondeChick (gee, I wonder what her salient features where) and Lightweight (find out later). Yes, we stole the nickname thing from Tucker, but seeing as this isn’t going to be read by anything more than ... read more

Wow, today is the last full day that I'm in the country. I can't believe it has gone so fast. I'm so excited I have constant butterflies in my stomach (the good kind). I also had my final going away event last night. It is my fourth one in a week, althought I'm not milking it, they were all with different people. Except Ripton - he was to three the greedy bugger (hehe). My first was going out with a group of my friends, We had a bit of a pub crawl in Wimbers and then went up to Koko's. It was a very good night despite my shoe casualty :(. The next was a Sunday lunch with friends of the family, it was the best lamb I think I have ever had and was a ... read more

Wow! This time in two weeks we will be at Heathrow, waiting to board our flight. We can hardly believe it, time has gone so fast....but I think we are almost ready. All the little bits and bobs have been bought and I cant wait to put them all in my rucksack and get going. We have spent so long planning everything and doing the research, we cant wait to see these places in the flesh. Not to mention finding out whether our chosen rucksacks, shoes, fleeces and clothing stand up to the test! This week we decided to add two more days onto the end of the trip. This rather amusingly (and completely coincidentally) means we will be going 'Around the World in 80 Days' just like Philaes Fogg! We had one disappointment with Sydney, ... read more

Hello!! This is my account with travelblog, haven't used it before and so might take me a while to get things going, but thought I'd use this rather than sending out loads of emails etc. Will work well for when I'm away, and great to have a record of places I've been. Anyway will notify you when there's actually something interesting to read! Have added a few pics from our SA trip in April ... unfortunately none of Gran :( xxxk ... read more

Again work and cricket have been taking up most of my time here so far. So that bit isn't all that interesting, but I haven't minded work of late as I have been kept quite busy and makes the days go faster. Usually topped off with a visit to the pub on the way home. Cricket wise I managed to make 107 not out in one game and we won with 2 wickets down. That was quite satisfying, in warm conditions (hot for all the English who constantly moaning about the heat). I have managed to make a couple of scores in the 30's since then, but nothing more substantial than the 100. Bowling hasn't been as good since the start, but probably due to bowling less than I usually do and therefore struggling for some ... read more

Thats right......we got tickets to wimbledon and got to watch a few matches yesterday!! How's that, we only had to line up for about 2.5hrs before we got through, no camping overnight for us! Actually there was a trick to it....we assumed there'd be quite a few tennis fans leaving wimbledon around 3pm in order to make it home in time for the England quarter final football (soccer) match against Portugal at 4pm, so even though it was full to capacity around noon, there was a good chance we could squeeze in later on. Anyway, we assumed correctly and made it in around 3pm. We watched the full doubles match of Alecia Molik and Wayne Arthurs against ummm.... a couple of czechs, and caught the end of Bagdadis winning, and a couple of other games of ... read more

Watching a match at Wimbledon is a once in a life time opportunity, and hence it's very hard to come by tickets. Extreme cases call for extreme measures - we lined up for 16hrs! Friday 30th June 2006 Brooke, Aaron, Amy, Megan and us promptly left work on Friday afternoon equipped with tents, sleeping bags, mats, picnics, eskies and an overnight bag. We found our way to the end of the que at around 6:30pm and set up camp on a pleasent grassy patch. We were issued que cards which showed we were number 350 in the line. It was a highly orgainised event, with officials and marshals patrolling all night and we were also given a book of queing rules!!! Only the POMS!! We celebrated Rach's birthday with a party in the line....we feasted on ... read more

Had an excellent day out at Wimbledon today. Wimbledon is both a pleasant village/suburb in outer London, but also the site of a tennis grand slam tournament held for 2 weeks every year at the end of June/start of July. It is possible to get tickets for the tennis through a public ballot held every year, but if you miss out on this you can also queue for tickets on the day. Wimbledon is one of the few British sporting events where you can still get tickets on the day, even if you are not affiliated to a particular club. However, to get these tickets you have to be willing to get up extremely early in the morning (or even camp out the night before). We opted for the former, and so at 4:15 on a ... read more

Thanks to my very generous relatives, I managed to make my way to Wimbledon yesterday with Julia. We couldn't have asked for a better day. We left Oxford around 9am with all of our belongings as we went to stay in London for the rest of the week afterwards. Julia's mom had been chosen for some very nice center court tickets and she had invited her sister-in-law to join her. Julia and I had ground passes but her mother was nice enough to let us sit in for a while to watch a couple of games. The weather was spectacular. It was sunny with a bit of patchy cloud, which was nice because when the sun was out it was very hot. Julia and I walked around quite a bit enjoying Pimm's (an interesting beer/lemonade drink ... read more

So here is the first entry in the travel blog! A handy opportunity to check that it all works before we go off travelling. Hopefully our business card directed you here without any problems! If you were amoungst the social elite who came down to party then we'd like to thank you for making it such a wicked night. We think we had a good time; the memories are a little hazy but the photos tell a pretty clear story! We have about 150 pictures from the night but we have tried to pick the ones that best show the progression from civilised drinking to drunken mess on here and have set up a photo gallery to put on all the others at snapfish.co.uk. We'll need to invite you to view the album so just send ... read more
