Queuing for Wimbledon
Where's wally.....Mick looks mighty pleased to be in a queue, dont you think??? Thats right......we got tickets to wimbledon and got to watch a few matches yesterday!! How's that, we only had to line up for about 2.5hrs before we got through, no camping overnight for us!
Actually there was a trick to it....we assumed there'd be quite a few tennis fans leaving wimbledon around 3pm in order to make it home in time for the England quarter final football (soccer) match against Portugal at 4pm, so even though it was full to capacity around noon, there was a good chance we could squeeze in later on. Anyway, we assumed correctly and made it in around 3pm. We watched the full doubles match of Alecia Molik and Wayne Arthurs against ummm.... a couple of czechs, and caught the end of Bagdadis winning, and a couple of other games of who we're not sure was playing. We also watched Sharipova from Henman Hill and heard the crowd roar like never before when the little known Brit (murray) beat Andy Roddick on centre court. We also lined up to see Lleyton, but missed out on a spot (not really big fans of his, so werent too upset) so overall it was an awesome day, and surreal
Poser at Wimbledon
Ofcourse we took an aussie flag along with us...handy for every sporting occasion they are! to think we were actually watching Wimbledon!
There were heaps and heaps of Aussies around, especially watching Alecia and Wayne, so although they were only on court 7, they had heaps of support. (unfortunately that didnt help them as they lost 2 sets to 1) but the Czech guy seriously had his eye on Alecia, so atleast she won a heart...hahahah.
And....London turned on a pearla of a day for it, a scorching 32 degrees, and apparently a mini heatwave is expected, with temps in the high 20's to low 30's for the next 4 days, so it should be good! (Its apparently around 10 degrees above average, and one of their hottest and dryest summers for a while.........yippee for us)
Also for the record...sincere condolences to the Brits for their terrible loss to Portugal (we feel your pain) penalties are never a good way to go out (although better to lose like that, than losing due to a d*ckhead ref with no idea of the rules and a team that's happy to get through by cheating.....obviously holding a little bit of a grudge...it'll pass) there were actually tears from the football fans disguised as tennis fans as they managed
Look who we saw........
Sir Elton drove past as we were waiting in line....... to find a tv at wimbledon showing the footy....it was a sad, sad day.
Well, that filled in the entire day as we didnt even get home til 11pm so not much else to report back on, but got a few good pics for you.
Hope you guys had a good weekend, back to work tomorrow, but will update the blog mid week with a few pics from our neighbourhood.
Til then.....
