Hi my lil nunu. I was sad to read your post and quite surprised, I have never thought my absence would have an impact on you, I figured you had your own life, and to have one sister constantly here and there would go unnoticed. I guess I was wrong. So here is a little story; Once upon a time there was a young woman, who felt lost in the world, she was unhappy and angry and didn’t know who to blame or what to do. She had the weight of the world on her shoulders, she had done awful things and the guilt was immense, to punish herself she allowed evil into her life and accepted the pain. One day it was too much. She ran away. She ran to the jungle and soaked up ... read more

So it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve last posted because school has been eating up my life and nobody wants to hear about that so I’m just going to move onto the Halloween Party that Erin and I threw this weekend. Friday night we began the prep by going to a Lidl, which is a cheapo supermarket chain, where we go lots of food and drinks for insanely cheap. It’s quite ghetto with the vegetable isle next to an automotive/cleaner isle, so that was a whole separate experience all in itself. Then Saturday was literally non-stop cooking, decorating, and pumpkin carving. Erin never carved a pumpkin before, and to think of it I don’t think I ever had either. I had painted pumpkins with Vicki when we were little, but never carved one--so we ... read more

This past week was a roller coaster of good events and bad events so I'll just go through the ups and downs... So I joined the football (soccer) and basketball teams at the uni and I had my first practices this past week. The skill levels are all varied on both teams because athletic programs are not as developed in the UK compared to the US, especially for women, but the girls are super friendly and I love being in a team environment again. Also, the fitness aspect is also amazing. I haven't done basketball sprints since high school so my body reeallllyyy felt it...or rather I really knew my legs exist because they ached all over. The down side is that the practices are at night, and since my body isn't used to the rush ... read more

Hey guys, I've recently come to London as a study abroad student and am living in Kilburn. To be honest I chose London because it's English speaking and a big city that I though would be good for my career. Yet the more time I spend here the more I discover all the great things the city has to offer me, stuff I hadn't even thought about before I came. Beside all the touristy stuff, which is all worth doing, the museums are amazing. I recently went to the Science, Imperial War, Tate Modern, and the British Museum and they have all been overwhelmingly great. The British Museum is enormous and can't be seen in one day, so I will be going back there soon. The Imperial War was really interesting and took a lot of ... read more

10/3/09 Ok so we’ve settled into the hostel a little more now, recovered from our jet lag and seen the inside of a few local pubs. I went on a mission on Sunday to get boots. All I’m saying is that in the leggings/dress equation, sneakers do not cut it! So having tramped all over the place on Friday and still not found somewhere where Londoners manage to clothe themselves, I decided to go to the new, big, massive Westfield. Despite our local train line being down, I still managed to take 1 bus and 2 trains to get there. Found some awesome boots, unfortunately the exchange rate didn’t allow for them, so settled for some ‘pretty good’ short biker boots, for 25 quid. Everyone in the hostel is looking for work. People are getting jobs ... read more

After time in Dubai and Paris, I'm now settled in London. The first few days were filled with the touristy stuff (Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Oxford Circus shopping, West End musical etc) then I found a place to live and a job to finance the travel! All has been good and a really easy move...thankfully! London's funny, I think you either love it or you hate it. So far I'm just taking it all in and going with the flow. My first friday and saturday nights were awesome. The first club I went to had been converted from horse stables...so random! I've since been hanging out with an old mate who I've known since we were seven. With the help of stalkerbook I've caught up with heaps of long lost mates who have come over and ... read more

3 days trip in London. I'm not going to post the standard london pictures here. Like Windsor, the Tower, Greenwich, Buckingham palace, Big Ben, blah blah blah. Very beautiful, charming and magnificent places (everybody knows where they got the money from ... ) Our friends we visited - they live and work here. Beer, whisky, slivovica. And back to Picadilly Circus.... read more

It seems an odd and unexotic location for the start of a travel blog, Kilburn, North London. But all great journies must begin somewhere. Ours is due to start from here on Friday, as I write, the pile for packing is growing behind me, the amount of ticks on the "To Do" list is growing. But that does nothing to alleviate my sense that something has been left forgotton and undone. Seasoned travellers that we are for weeks I have felt confident that all is in hand and after all, going away for 12 weeks is not such a big deal, but now the day of departure draws nearer, it is a big deal! We will fly on a tiny plane from The City Airport to Amsterdam, before boarding our real flight to Delhi. How bizarre ... read more

On my second day in this hostel, when I finally made it into the common lounge, one of the first things anyone said to me was "Watch out for the Italian girl. She's crazy." And they were right - she was actually crazy. Apparently she'd threatened someone with a knife two nights previously. But it gets better ... This girl (let's call her 'A') had met an English boy while he was on holiday in Italy. The story goes that he moved back to London and she, thinking that it was true love, followed him over. He, on the other hand, apparently thought it was just a fling ... or he was running away! She had very little money, no credit card and not even a debit card and somehow she ended up with us here ... read more

Today I visited the Tower of London. Unfortunately, although it was wonderful (and quite hot), I was still suffering from occasional overwhelming bouts of homesickness. Nevertheless, I managed to enjoy myself - I went on a guided tour (which was free) and the tour guide was a former soldier who knew everything about the gruesome bits of the Tower's history and was very entertaining. Then I wandered around for a bit before heading off over Tower Bridge towards London Bridge. Of course, being me, I got lost on the way to London Bridge, but I discovered a wonderful little old part of Southwark that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. The down side is that I now feel like I've inhaled a whole stack of soot and ash - that's the London smog for you. During my ... read more
