With the whole day ahead of us, Stav and I decided to visit Tate Modern, a free museum to the public. We've been spending so much money lately, so this seemed like a cheap, yet fun way to spend the morning/early afternoon. Wrong. Of course the bus stop we had to get off at was closed, so we had to walk even farther to the prison-like museum. It literally looked like a prison on the outside...and the inside. There were zero decorations. It was simply a big box of conrete. No wonder it's free. We went up and down the escalators a few times before we actually found the "art." It mostly consisted of naked women and artwork that I could have made (aka paint splatters and shapes on a canvas). Maybe that is why they ... read more

Today was one of the best days I've had in London. To get things going, Stav (my roommate) and I decided it was a good day to do laundry since we don't work on Fridays. This was smart as the dryers do not dry at our residence, so we were forced to hang all of our clothes thoughout the room (these rooms are also closet-sized). After dealing with the clothes situation we headed over to Knightsbridge where Harrods (the huge department store) is located. I bought a pair of gorgeous heels that look sandal-like at Zara. They are very high (about 3.5 inches) with black, gladiator-like strapes at the front. A bargain buy at $16. Go me!! Since it was raining we also headed over to Harrods to check it out again (there are at least ... read more

So...it has always been a dream of mine to go to a movie premiere. Well, tonight, I did! Katy Perry is in town promoting her 3D movie. I am unable to go to the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, so I decided to head over to Leicester Square and check this one out. All I can say is that if there were that many people there for Katy Perry's movie I can't imagine what it's like for a major motion picture. There were oodles and oodles of people flocking around the gates surrounding the red carpet. I never actually saw Katy becuase she had not arrived when I went, but I was still able to see the red carpet adorned with all the lights and props. It was just how I pictured it, but better. ... read more

I love traveling. End of story. I had such a fantastic time in Frankfurt, Germany. We left our residence at 3:30 AM, but the taxi we hired never showed up, so we had to flag one down at King's Cross. The taxi took us to the bus stop, which took us to the airport, which took us to Germany. Yes, I know what you're thinking--it must have taken forever. You are correct if you thought this. Although once we got on the plane we arrived very quickly. Getting to Frankfurt from the airport was a different story--it takes two hours to get from Frankfurt Hahn airport to Frankfurt...weird, I know. Mind you it was also extremely hot (something I've forgotten since being in London). After all of this we finally got to our hotel in Frankfurt ... read more

This evening I checked in for my flight to Germany! I cannot wait...although I don't know what's in Frankfurt. My grandmother was born in Cologne, Germany, but who knows where that it. I guess I'll find out! I am not looking forward to waking up at 3:45 in the morning. Of course the airport we're flying out of is in the middle of nowhere, so it should be an adventure. Now that I think about it I should probably see where Germany is in relation to England... This trip has been on my mind all day. It's always been a dream of mine to travel around Europe in the summertime...dreams do come true! It was so hard to focus at work today because of this realization that I'm traveling around the world all by myself (well, ... read more

It is incredible how much information can be picked up from reading a newspaper. Since arriving in the United Kingdom, I have learned how different the UK and the US are in terms of the media, especially the newspaper. One important difference I have noticed between the United Kingdom and the United States is how often news is reported. For example, on Tuesday afternoon, I read an article online about how the Spice Girls were reuniting in London to promote their new musical. Upon entering the Tube station to leave for work, I picked up the London Evening Standard paper, which reported the story, as well. In the United States, I would merely see the story on the evening news versus actually reading it in an evening paper. In the UK, I feel as if the ... read more

After being in London for just over two weeks I already feel like a native. When I went off on my own to the museum I was not nervous about traveling around the city alone. In fact, I was excited to see just what I could accomplish. Each day I feel as if I am soaking up more of Europe. For example, when I went to lunch today at a crepe cafe (again), I knew exactly which coins to use and what 'takeaway' meant without thinking twice about it. A true Londoner! The office has also given me the opportunity to fit in more. Merely traveling to a foreign country and actually working there are two completely different experiences. The first week at the office jolted my nerves as I was afraid of messing up tea, ... read more

Despite my head cold the past couple of days, I have been having the time of my life. Each day has brought a new adventure with new people, new sites, and new memories. Thursday evening I had the privilege of riding the London Eye (a famous sightseeing wheel-type thing) and seeing all the sites of the city. It is situated along the river Themes and offers great views of Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and the buildings within London. Big Ben was lit up with green lights at the top...absolutely stunning. Friday was a typical British day--Harry Potter Studio Tour and afternoon tea. Getting to Harry Potter, however, was an adventure itself. A bus strike started on Friday and we, of course, needed the buses to get to Harry Potter. After asking about five different ... read more

This second week at Irresistible Films has been an incredible learning experience for me as I adjusted more to the workplace environment and found myself in the unlikely situation of becoming ill. As I started the new week, I could not wait to jump back into working on the company’s social networking pages. However, I was hit with a wall of nerves when I came down with a serious head cold that ultimately taught me about the importance of communication in the workplace. Wednesday morning seemed unreal to me—sniffles, a sore throat, lethargy, and a throbbing headache, but the only concern I had was how I was going to present myself at work. When I arrived at the office I said very little about my illness, but rather continued with my normal routine of asking my ... read more

Turns out what I thought was allergies was actually a nasty head cold! The past 24 hours have been awful as I've been trying not to sniffle, cough, and breathe too loudly. However, I have quite a bit to do at work to keep me busy (mostly working on the social networking pages) and have been able to enjoy the nice weather. To cure my cold I bought something similar to Theraflu where you pour the powder in the mug and add hot water. I also bought some Ben and Jerry's ice cream (caramel chew chew--a flavor we don't have back home). I really hope I feel better soon as I have so many great plans the next couple of days!! Who would want to miss out on the Harry Potter tour because they're ill? Not ... read more
