Thursday February 9, 2012.....We landed at 8 am (U.K Time) the next day in London and after what seemed like an hour of wandering through miles of empty terminal, we made our way through customs. NOTE: Either they spend many hours training their agents to look bored and disinterested or they must only hire those who can already maintain a totally disaffected look. In fact we saw one agent who performed a remarkable eye roll and glare when a traveler ahead of us was directed to her desk. Quite amazing really...she was able to make all the passengers in line cringe and shudder. So I am safe and settled at my hotel by Heathrow airport for the night. The second plane ride was really enjoyable, but I did not sleep at all. I ended up watching the first "Sherlock Holmes" movie, an episode of "Arrested Development" and the beginning of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2". I also had a delicious meal and a very comfortable seat. I had to wait for about an hour to get through customs, but after that it was easy to get to the hotel. I pushed through my exhaustion and headed straight downtown after I dropped my stuff off at the hotel. I went to buy a few things at Primark and postcards to send to people and got a lunch at Pret. Sitting in Heathrow since 9am. Air China won't be at the check-in desk until about lunchtime. Flight not until 5.30pm. had a delish brekkie this morning in Cork Airport - thanks Dad! :) Getting hungry now again though (nothing new there). Hope my suitcase gets through ok - no bother in Cork but arrived in London with a Heavy Bag tag!... read more

I really thought about writing a blog but I've never really started. So today is the day!!! Lets see how it goes in the future.. Actually I have no any travelling plans in the nearst future but first I would like to say something about my travelling in 2011. One of my New Year's resolutions was to travel more and to explore new places, new countries. Now the year is going to end and I think I really made it. Summary: 7 countries - Portugal, Ireland, France, Monaco, Denmark, Mexico, Turkey :) PORTUGAL ( 19 - 23.03.2011) I have been to Porto which I think is really lovely city. Blogged in London, posted in Hong Kong due to 'technical difficulties'! Well the first (and shortest!) leg of the trip is done and I'm sat at heathrow T5 (Oooh fancy curvy roof) waiting for the next leg to Hong Kong. Highlight of the trip so far? The huge advert by the departure gate at Manchester airport for use of the ringway visitor park as a conference/wedding venue (they have Concorde there dontcha know?) with the claim of 'high standards and attention to detail' followed closely by 'complete event managment'. Anyone spot the deliberate mistake?! Methinks their attention to detail claim may be subject to review by trading standards...! So an hour to go (I have Alan Partridge to keep me entertained, although sadly only in paperback) and then I'll leave the shores for (hopefully) warmer climes!! ... read more

So after 10 months of waiting the day was finally here and I was off on my travels. I had all my stuff ready to go the day before so it was just a case of have a bite to eat, say goodbye to my dog for a year, hide the fact that I was a little choked up and jump in the car. The drive to Exeter wasn't too bad, I sat quietly in the back on my phone (facebook) saying goodbye to everybody and getting a last bit of banter in with my mates.
