The day started early as I am keen to see Thea and Ava, my granddaughters, before leaving. As I’ve been ill the whole week, I haven’t seen anyone. It’s been a very long week. I still aren’t 100%, but I’m going for it. Hopefully I will continue to improve each day.
I was originally getting the 6:30 train from Hull to London to join the group. I then delayed it to get the 10:30 to give me a bit more time in the morning, then finally, I pushed it on again to get the 13:30 train. This allows me to see the girls before leaving. If I don’t, it’ll be nearly 4 weeks since I saw them. They may forget what I look like…
The weather was a shocker this morning, so warm! I was not expecting that. I haven’t really prepared the most perfect travelling outfit for this weather, but it’ll have to do. I’m not prepared to re unpack and repack my bag again!
I thought today was just a ‘meet up’ day, but no, I’ve just had the itinerary, and it’s a full on ‘London’ day! Sad I’m missing it, but it’s a done deal
now, and I was happy to see the girls before leaving!
Ross dropped me off at Brough train station, I’m ready and waiting for the 1:30 to Kings Cross Station. Here I come!
I arrived safely to Kings Cross, OMG, the heat!!! Crazy hot! I worked my way across London, underground and overground, then a short walk to the Ibis Hotel in Earls Court. I was very happy to find I’m in a room on my own, I was expecting to share! I’m pleased because I am currently coughing all night, which would be embarrassing if I kept the other person awake!
A new first for me today! …..Uber!!! The girl in reception was so helpful. She struggled to believe that we don’t have Uber! It is so easy to do, begging the question…. Why don’t we have Uber in Hull? The first taxi the girl called was £70, Uber £28… no brainier!
I’m on my way to meet the group for dinner, but I’m about an hour late… so far. Not sure if I’ll get to actually eat tonight!!! Oohhh… result, the tour guide just text me, he’s ordering me the battered fish…..happy days!
I ate my tea with the tour guide, Jamie, as all the others were already sat in groups, but more importantly, eaten already! He explained that we have 3 solo ladies, so we’ll probably take it in turns for the single room, fair play!
I had my fish and chips, then Elton Mess… it was a treat! Although I did throw it down quite quickly to catch up….. and then the bar lady wouldn’t even take my money for a soda water… great result all round.
We all left together to go for our transport back to the hotel…. A really old London double decker bus… vintage, I’d say!
We arrived back at the hotel. By the time I had a shower, sorted my stuff for tomorrow, and made a coffee, I was shattered!
It’s an early start tomorrow, up at 5.30, breakfast at 6.15. Paris here we come!
