Welcome to Steve ‘n’ Cathy’s travel blog. We’re off around the world (for the third time it has to be said) so we’re calling it RTW3. This first blog entry is to set the scene. Where are we going? We’re going to revisit some old favorites and some new places. Here’s the itinerary in summary. 1) A few days in Hong Kong to revisit old haunts and get over the worst of the jet lag. 2) Then on to Perth, Western Australia – never been, so 5 days there. 3) Across to Sydney – this is a return visit but we were there first in 1994. Steve is going to do the Sydney Harbour bridge climb, but Cathy has decided to be sensible and go shopping instead. 4) Then to South America (flying across the South ... read more

The last day of my holiday :( It's gone so quickly and it will be hard heading home tomorrow. I've returned to England from the Spanish leg of my trip with a golden tan and a belly full of lovely food! The reason for my trip - Silvi & Paul's wedding - was absolutely superb. Set in the gardens of a boutique hotel the ceremony was conducted in English and Spanish... and when Paul was speaking.... sometimes Spanglish (This of course is untrue.... Paulito - you did a brilliant job)! There weren't too many dry eyes after the ceremony. Silvi was determined not to shed any tears.... we know how impossible for her that was to achieve. The food was absolutely amazing! We were standing in a courtyard sipping cava and course after course of gorgeous ... read more

I'm on my third day of my forty day and forty night adventure. Far from being a self impose exile, my journey so far has been one of planes, trains and automobiles - lots of sitting down, a bit of dribbling, quite a few movies and a lot of fairly uninspired airline catering. Aside from catching up with the latest movies, breathing in a lot of recycled air, giggling as the man in business class changes into his PJs, resisting the urge to slap the stupid whinging woman across isle, gagging as some heinous individual farts in my vicinity in the immigration queue, acting confused while not certain as to whether I'm on the Heathrow Express platform or the District Line and generally being a little tired at the end of 30 hours travel, one does ... read more

I'm sure we've all experienced that small feeling of panic prior to passing through immigration - I just put it down to momentary paranoia. However, unfortunately for my brother Matt, his momentary paranoia turned into over 72 hours of hell! At 6:00pm on 27 June Matt entered the British immigration hall, happy that his journey from Australia was finally over, but when he told the immigration officer that he was here to get married - it all suddently got very serious. The short version of the story: - Aussies marrying Brits in the UK now need a special visa (as at Mar 2005) - Matt didn't know about this visa, nor did he have one - Threatened with immediate deportation to Canberra for the British Embassy to issue the visa - Got a 48 hour reprieve ... read more
