during my gap year, i went to peru... and gained some weight, and made friends, and had an amazing time. despite frequent minor earthquakes, and a national state of emergency - which meant tanks and armed guards on our streets, and curfews. which was all part of the fun as far as we were concerned, although my mother wasn't so amused... the state of emergency had a massive drawback - it made things fairly dangerous as far as moving around the country went, so we didn't manage to get to the most famous peruvian landmark - macchu picchu. so we stayed in lima, working on a project, and eating lots of amazing peruvian food. missing the travelling part, however, is a great reason to go back.
