”You can’t understand a country without using its public transportation system”- Erol Oran We’ve taken the trains and the tube a LOT over the past five days, so I thought this quote was appropriate 😀. We take another train early tomorrow morning, from Eastbourne to Gatwick Airport, for our flight to Dubrovnik. We are so excited about going to Croatia! But first, we’ve had a pleasant last two days in Eastbourne. Yesterday we had a relaxing day, walking into town with Carol Ann, and doing a bit of shopping. I didn’t bring jeans with me, but it’s been a bit cool so I thought I wouldn’t mind a pair, so I bought a pair of very reasonably priced dark skinny jeans at Primark. Then we enjoyed a fish and chip lunch at ”Qualisea”. We both had ... read more

Greetings from England! We are in Eastbourne, located on the southern coast of England, in the county of East Sussex. We made our flight from Vancouver to London! I was a bit worried, since we were flying standby, but we got on the flight no problem. After being dropped off at the airport by our good friend Alida (thanks Alida 😀), we spent a couple of hours at the premium lounge at the airport with a few beverages and snacks. After a gin and tonic I was more relaxed about making the flight, especially as there were still at least ten seats available at that point. We were really hoping we might get upgraded, but unusually, it was a very full flight (I think more people were travelling to London because of the Queen’s recent passing), ... read more

Dear All Greetings, and hello again from London. I am writing at the end of a lovely week-long half-term holiday, the Thursday of which I decided to head out and explore again, and am now writing up my blog entry for another lovely local day trip from London. This time I headed southwards, to the south coast, to a lovely little seaside town called Eastbourne, and some nearby star attractions: Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters, both located in the south-eastern corner of the expansive South Downs National Park. It was a highly enjoyable day, and I must admit I saw what I believe to be one of England’s most spectacular natural wonders. While England, to my mind, is an adorable country, of rolling hills, cute landscapes and quaint villages, I believe there are not too ... read more

I decided to hike the coast today after all - in retrospect an ~8 mile hike the day after my arrival probably wasn't the best idea lol, but at least it was worth it beauty-wise! I set off to Exceat to start the hike at Seven Sisters. The bus ride was amusing - most of the stops aren't street names, that's too pedestrian. I could have got off at the Goffs, The Lamb, or my personal fav, the Tally Ho! I had the prime front seat on the double-decker and enjoyed watching the countryside (along with all the branches...) go by. At Exceat there's a Visitor Centre, but I just headed off to frolic with the sheep. So many sheep. As such, I also had to play "avoid the poo" as the sheep seem to think ... read more

Hello all Today I was up to London in Hampton Court - and not being mugged in the Philipines- I am sorry but my Yahoo account has been hacked - I have lost all emails and all contacts - so this blog is a good way to reach most of you. Thanks to everyone who might have thought it was true and showed concern by texting phoning or messaging me here...and given that Richard has been working in Manilla a couple of times - it was perfectly feasible that I might have been there!! Now it's aright mess to try and see if Yahoo can restore my account ....meanwhile I am changing all passwords etc ....maybe I shall use a Maori word - they are pretty unintelligible. Love bemused and confused me. xxx... read more

After I got back from the BIG TRIP in April- I did think I would use the blog for my other occasional travels but I never really got round to it at the time. Well I have been to Sweden at Easter and then to Normandy with Christine ( my sis-in-law) at the beginning of June - so will post some of those fotos in another blog to catch up. I have also had my home exchage family from Christchurch New Zealand to stay - so it has been a lovely busy time.A Anyway my lovely cousin Marllyn (who lives in Spain - more trips there for me coming up) is always full of bright ideas which usually involve Terry in some extra DIY work around the house..but this time her idea was for me to ... read more

The last leg and probably one of the hottest day of the year so far and so not ideal for walking. When I set out on the 11 mile hike from Alfriston along the river towards the coast I feared the heat may get the better of me. As I got nearer the coast there was a gentle cooling breeze which was very welcome. The coastal walk from Cuckmere Haven into Eastbourne was spectactular and must rank as one of the best in the UK, First there is the River Cuckmere meanering into the sea at Cuckmere Haven although it looks as though in years to come this will all change as the man-made sea defences are being abandoned and the Haven will revert to being a tidal estuary The Seven Sisters are next and this ... read more

Hey Mates!
