We could have used another hour of sleep last night, but nonetheless, we were up and ready for breakfast at 7:00 with AIS (ass in seat!!) at 8:00. Perfect morning! We drove back through Bodmin Moor heading towards Cornwall and an immersion into the smuggling and tin mining culture of years past. We passed lots of fields with root vegetables, lots of fields with lots of sheep, lots of wind turbines, and lots of solar panels. Cornwall claims to be most eco friendly county in England. Another note of interest...Cornwall grows LOTS of daffodils and there is a lot of research going in to a possible treatment for Alzheimer’s and dementia treatment. Amazing! Cornwall produced 91% of the workd’s tin supply in the 1990’s. We made a good stop in Marizon, a Medieval town. While there ... read more

This was another long but good day. We were in our coach at 8:30 heading through the English county of Devon to the county of Cornwall. Devon is amazingly beautiful. We did end up seeing some of the rock fences outlining fields that we were so familiar with in Ireland. The weather was perfect—fairly cool—in the mid to upper 50’s—with clear blue skies and a few puffy clouds. It was a good thing that the weather was so nice since all of our activities were mostly outside. Our first stop was at the Jamaica Inn of Daphine Du Mourier fame—writer of the famous book, Rebecca—which was made into a movie by Alfred Hitchcock. The Jamaica Inn was in the book. I may have to re-read it. It is also in the area where the PBS series, ... read more

Folks, this is going to be a short one tonight! It is 9:00, we just got back from a wonderful meal, and we have to meet the group at 7:30 in the morning when we will have breakfast before starting on a LONG day of touring. Touring is NOT for sissies for sure! We have had a wonderful day. As the title indicates, I clicked two big items off of my bucket list today. They included seeing Stonehenge, which I wrote my high school term paper on way back ___ (fill in the blanks!) years ago, and seeing the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral was another long held wish. Imagine doing both in the same day! I could write paragraphs about both, but I am tired and ready to hit the hay, so you are just ... read more

The journey to the next site went really well. Traffic was mostly light due to most holiday makers legging it in the opposite direction, and I swear they were looking at me like I was going the wrong way. On route I stopped off in Cambourne to find an Aldi store in the hope of replacing my folding bucket, but they no longer sell them! So I picked up a mixing bowl from the pound shop, it works, except its smaller than the sink, so overflows every time I forget to empty it. There was also a Cornish Oven, which is a pasty shop in town so I made that my lunch stop. The site was easy to find and even quieter than the last, though unfortunately the winds were blowing at gale force. The site ... read more

Geo: 50.546, -4.1535Today we went into Tavistock to the market and a wander around the shops, Tavi is a beautiful place and every time I am there I just love it, I think I could easily live there. You have the moors nice and close and it retains the feel of a real english village.Wendy and I then jumped in the car and made our way across to Launceston in Cornwell on the hunt for the elusive charlie bears that I just had to have lol. On the way we drove through the Tamar Valley which really is a beautiful as I have seen so many times on shows on the TV , no disappointment at all. I might have accidentally acquired a couple of extra passengers for the ride home lol.The next day went for ... read more

There was the usual dilemma in the morning of what initial direction to head when first starting off in order to get the best way out of the town - anyway that solved I was on my way again. Deciding at the last minute to head along the coast as long as possible I cut to the right on a sunny, bright morning heading for a town called Fowey (later I found out pronounced Foi as in Oi !!!). There is a river crossing here with no road as such so I asked in a woodcutting yard if there was a ferry or something and the answer was yes. Asking the way to the ferry, some are glum some are merry Some are just kind and I want to pat him on the back and say ... read more

On Thursdays we pick food to sell at Tavistock Market on Fridays. One of us goes with Rob - RM went on the first week, AP on the second, and Naarah on the third. The market has been going for about a thousand years. It’s in a big hall and has many stalls selling all kinds of stuff - food, antiques, clothing, books etc. It has lots of local shops too - cheese shop, butchers, fishmongers, so you can do all your weekly shopping here, it’s got an old fashioned market town feel to it. Rob knows many of his customers well, they flock for his delicious kale (a spinach like plant) and his other fruit and vegetables. It's a different feel to shopping in a supermarket.... read more
