That’s the Lake District National Park done and dusted. Over 17 miles today saw us complete the trek through the Lake District - and hopefully the monster climbs are now all done. Baptism of fire this morning after a nice breakfast. Crossed a very lovely unassuming bridge and through a non-descript gate and into the realm of climb hell. Over 3 hours going up to a peak of 780m - but climbing more than 1,000m with the slight down relief - and covering only 5 miles. Legs burning and feet sore we eventually made it to the top. The highlight was definitely turning a corner on the way up to see Angel Tarn - absolutely beautiful and stunning. The guide said there was a steep descent to the reservoir, it didn’t say you needed to bring ... read more

And so the big day had arrived: Patterdale to Shap, one of the longest stretches (25km) and most elevation (over 1000m!) in one day. And what a day it was! Waking early to the birds (and some loud geese) alongside the calm water, we enjoyed some porridge breaky in the sun and got ourselves ready and packed up all by 8am. Of course, the trail began to climb almost immediately, but we were feeling good. Until we saw a dead sheep at the bottom of a crag ☹️. But then good again when we saw our first live wild red squirrel ? who checked us out then scuttled along the path infront of us! This was later followed by seeing a large herd of deer ? running across the tops and disappearing behind the peaks. We ... read more

Kate took another day out due to a heavy cold so it’s down to me (Pete) to write today’s entry. This was the longest day in terms of mileage and climbing we were due to cover just over 15 miles with a long and steep climb near the beginning of the day and another slightly less steep climb towards the end of the day. Personally although I can see how people found the day hard I don’t wish to sound big headed when I say I didn’t find it challenging. I thought it was however a beautiful day filled with awesome scenery and brilliant company. We started off from the accommodation along a quiet country driveway beside some traditional Lake District cottages, soon leaving these behind we started ascending past some spectacular waterfalls. There has been ... read more

Stayed in the Old Water View overnight, where Ian told us that of 3000 people who do the walk each year, only 100 do the Rosthwaite to Patterdale stretch in one day, and out of them, only 30 actually make it on foot! Made us feel good! The thunder and lightening rolled in this morning, and Ian told us the story about 6 people who got caught on top of the mountain 2 weeks ago, during a storm. 2 fell down the escarpment and broke their legs, 2 ran in opposite directions and fell to the ground & one woman was deciding what to do, when the lightening struck, and killed her. That was enough for us (Plants, Richard & Tom) to take Wainwright's alternate route, on the steamer up the lake and continue the walk ... read more

Hello, Today was a dreary and rainy for quite a bit. We went on a cruise of Lake Windermere in Bowness on Windermere. It was another great experience (I haven't had any badexperiences yet!). After myself and some other Canadians plus one Aussie went to the Beatrix Potter musuem and had some lunch before heading back to the bus. We then had another optional activitiy. It was some sports like activities at a sports adventure place outside of a town called Keswick. I went canoeing. My partner and I were not very successful. It rained as well but the views were great! We then went back to Keswick for a "walk-about" dinner. A "walk-about" dinner is what they use to refer to a dinner that isn't one included in the tour (you have to find your ... read more
