Off to St Ives (well almost).

Having settled into the 20 ish km per day routine the thought of a 30 km day was a bit scary. Couple that with some steep hill descents/ascents in the first hour or so we decided to cut short the day and only walk 20 of the 30 km that was scheduled. As it happens we were meant to be collected and driven back home so things worked OK and easy. As it was the last 15 km was pretty easy and we finis be mid afternoon but that extra 10 would have taken close to 3 hours and much of that walking was on tarmac and around an estuary, walking down one side and back up the other. It was possible but would have made for a big day walking from 9 o’clock to about 5 o’clock then still having to come back home. A short day means a recovery pasty and a cider post shower so it’s easy to take.

Recovered and good. Ready to research tomorrow’s walk as it helps to be prepared knowing the distance, elevation gain, terrain, estimated time of walking, whether snacks, icy-poles etc are available. The guide book, Google earth and a walking app are invaluable aids and make the job relatively straightforward. Knowing how to get to the start of the track from our accomodation and visa versa, that is how to find our accomodation can make a big difference to the walking day.

It’s burger and pint night at the local pub (that local, it’s next door!) and unbelievably we have only had one burger each since arriving in the UK. That’s about to change. Our BnB host called it an ‘offer’, I heard ‘offal’ so was quite excited until Julie translated for me. Just think a Cornish pasty for lunch and some liver and bacon for supper! Anyway.

Slightly longer day tomorrow but as I said I’ll go and read up on what’s on.
