I am so behind on these entries! It is hard to get unscheduled time to sit on the computer here. Plus with the lousy connection, it doesn't work at night, it doesn't work in the bedroom, and it doesn't work if Erika's on her computer, so that means I can only work on here in the morning, by the window, if Erika is still asleep. I miss my internet connection at home! I also miss the water pressure at home, here you get a trickle barely enough to wash the soap out of your hair. Anyhow... Sunday we walked from the flat up to Pendennis Castle. It was absolutely beautiful, set on the headlands surrounded by water and beaches. It was like a maze with lots of little spiral staircases going up and down everywhere, I'm ... read more

Saturday we moved from Gweek down to our rented flat on the harbor in Falmouth. The views are beautiful, providing you don't look straight down into the water. I have never seen so much trash and muck - ew! lol But other than that it is nice. We were here just in time for the Sea Shanty festival so there was singing all weekend over at the Chain Locker pub right behind us, and loads of people in period sailor and pirate type costumes. It was pretty neat! I got a video of it which I would love to upload, if I can. We've been having a terrible time with this internet service, it is soooo slow and likes to kick you off if more than one person are on it. I've been having to make ... read more

12th June Thursday Cowes (Isle of Wight) - Portland Harbour/Castle Cove Departure 7.50am Cloudly and misty this morning at 5.30am when I was awake. I had hoped that it would be clear when we left Cowes but it started raining instead. We had to let the Ferry “ Red Funnel” from Southamton through first then we could leave. Sails up at 8.25am. We had all the sails up, it seems ages since we had all the sails up. We are doing 9-11 kts which isn’t bad. Still cloudy but the sun is trying. The sun came out at 9am. Winds have died down as we approach the main land. 11.25am approx, a boat came zooming towards us and asked us to change course to 240 degrees as we were going through a Naval Exercise Range. We ... read more

Today was the culmination of the first part of the trip - we had circumnavigated the globe in the east to west direction arriving at Falmouth at 7.00 am. We had to say goodbye to all our friends from this leg of our journey. If any of you read this blog we will really miss you all. We are hoping to meet up with Stewart and Pam again when we get to Cape Town. We also moved cabins from Deck 5 to Deck 7. More about this in a later blog. We met up with Mopsy and Popsy (M's parents) at about 10.00 am. Mopsy had done brilliantly and managed to get most of M's shopping list. First stop was Azda for a runny egg for breakfast and some new clothes (M had gone up a ... read more

We departed Falmouth port to the sound of Rod Stewart singing "We are Sailing"; Falmouth is famous for its harbour; and, together with Carrick Roads, it forms the third deepest natural harbour in the world - and the deepest in Western Europe. The sea was calm and the harbour was very beautiful. There was a definite sense of excitement at the Sail Away Party as we set off on this huge adventure. We had arranged to be on the second sitting for dinner and had asked for a table for 8. We met 5 of our dining companions on this first evening. Donald (a retired major), Pam and Stewart from South Africa, and David and Margaret from Morecambe . Donald's partner was already sea sick and so had stayed in their cabin. It was a very ... read more

Welcome to Mandi (M) and David's (D) first blog. Our first East to West world cruise departed at 16.30 pm on the 12th October 2007 but when we return in about 3 months time we will stay aboard and circumnavigate the globe again - but this time travelling from West to East. The maps show the route and the ports of call are listed underneath. Hopefully, this will be the trip of a lifetime. We will be gone for nearly six months. The ship we are travelling on is called the MV Van Gogh (pictured). It is a small cruise ship without many facilities . The ship does not have much in the way of communications (apart from a satellite phone for emergencies) so we will need to spend some time in internet cafes keeping in ... read more

Monday, 26 March We awoke at 6am after 12 hours deep sleep, much needed after the . We read the papers, wrote some blog, and watched British morning TV. The news of the moment is the captured British Sailors and the murder of cricket coach Bob Woolmer. Breakfast and a cup of tea later, we checked out of the hotel and the car company picked us in their shuttle bus. It turned out that the car we had booked was a Môndeo, and it was manual. Jeff is sure that he booked an automatic car, which was described as a Honda Accord on the website, but the staff assure us that they no longer have Accords, and they are all manual in this class anyway. We upgraded to the next car class, which gave us ... read more

Bored with looking at the back of Colin's head and watching Alistair's beard grow even greyer I decided I needed a break. Whilst no one was looking, I snuck out and got myself a lift on a milk lorry. The driver, Trevor, understood my boredom. He'd been an office clerk once and he'd found it very boring. We travelled south for a couple of hours and I had to change to another lorry at Watford Gap services. This driver, Reg', was going all the way to Cornwall so I decided to stick with him. We arrived in St Austell and I immediately fell in love with the place. You can see a picture of me at the Eden project. It's kind of an indoor jungle with so many beautiful tropical plants and flowers. It was very ... read more

Alright everyone. This is really just a test run to see if it works before we go so dont expect any stories yet. We dont even know how to get pics on the bugger yet! We've got everything sorted so its just a case of saying bye to you lot and getting on the plane. The next entry will probably be from the Big Apple and failing that some other place in the U.S cos we pretty much have no specific route after New York! Have a bloody 'ansome year and we hope you enjoy reading the online journal we keep. Cheers... read more
