Overlooking the spectacular entrance to the Fal Estuary, St Anthony Head on the toe of Roseland Peninsula, has excellent coastal and sheltered creekside walks. Southern Roseland Peninsula is one of the remotest coastlines in Cornwall, which can only be accessible by the small boat with maximum passengers of 10 from St Mawes harbour between May and September. There aren’t any supermarkets, banks, and post office on the toe of Roseland Peninsula. It is therefore advised that you should buy food and drinks if you plan walking or swimming around southern Roseland Peninsula. The small boat goes through Percuil River after leaving St Mawes harbour, and reached the Place harbour surrounded by the gold sandy beach. You will find the Place House on the right hand, which is an emblem of southern Roseland Peninsula. There is a ... read more

A modern garden was created within sheltered belts surrounded by Carrick Road, Fal River, and Lamouth Creek 200 years ago. From August 2004, the ferry services which stop at Trelissick Garden started. The boats depart from Truro, St Mawes, and Falmouth and go through the historical buildings which have been used for the film setting along the Fal River and offer commentary. If you travel with the ferry, you will reach the harbour established on the Fal River at the back of the woodland. There are a wide range of shrubs, trees, sub-tropical plants, and shady plants, e.g. rhododendrons, Himalayan bamboos, hydrangeas, magnolias, palm trees, etc grown and they are thriving from spring to late autumn. Spring comes at the end of January or the beginning of February. At early spring, snowdrops, daffodils, and Christmas roses ... read more

Thought I should get this up and running before I go. It's not long now until I leave only 11 days and I will be on that plane bound for Singapore! The bag is sorta packed (I keep finding little things, I have forgotten to pack. And that little solar torch had best hurry up as I am getting very annoyed with the slow postage! Finding the whole idea of going very exciting but at the same time its a bit nerve-racking. Although I'm sure once I get there these nerves will disappear and the adventure will begin. Right now any ideas on how to survive a 14 hour flight with no MP3 player would be amazing although I am told there will be films. (Exciting stuff never been on a flight with films before!) However ... read more

firstly apologies to all for the lack of entries so far - seems we have been "on the run" since we left home and only now are things slowing down enough to let you know what's been happening. our last stop was the youth hostel in Bath and possibly the less said about that the better. A shame because bath itself was fantastic. today we are in Flushing in Cornwall in a gorgeous cottage overlooking the water accross to Falmouth. the picture is actually the view from the lounge!!! today we will take a ferry across to Falmouth for a look around, although it is a bank holiday weekend here so "laying low" might be a better plan. Wil try to fill in the blanks for you all over the next couple of days. (having trouble ... read more

Thursday Doug and I slept in and then relaxed on Castle Beach until the tide came in. I collected lots of shells you wouldn't find on California beaches, and we did a little shopping for gifts to bring home. For dinner we went to a Thai restaurant that turned out to be pretty good. I wasn't sure if I would like Thai but it seemed a lot like Chinese food but spicier. Around 10pm we went out with my cousin Martin and his girlfriend Leah to check out the local pubs in Falmouth. We went to the Chain Locker next door to our flat and another that I don't remember the name of. On Friday it was Erika's 21st birthday, so we had a small dinner party in the flat with "take away" (what we call ... read more

On Tuesday we visited Trebah Gardens. It's a tropical garden that starts at the top of a hill and winds all the way down to a little beach at the bottom. We poked around all the little meandering paths through all kinds of plants - palms, bamboo, huge elephant ears, foxgloves, and ferns. Everything is so green compared to home where it is all brown and dead at the moment. So many wildflowers grow naturally here, like foxgloves. I had to plant them in my garden, I wish they grew naturally like that! In the evening we went out to dinner with Hilary's friend Lis who lives in Falmouth and her boyfriend John and son Luke.... read more

20th June Friday Falmouth - Ensenade de Muros/Northern Spain Departure 10.20am We are finally departing England and beginning our trip over to Spain. My first crossing over The Bay of Biscay. I’ve been told several times that the sea can be very rough or very calm which would be a blessing for me. Lars says it may take 3 - 4 days crossing we will just have to see. When we left our mooring we called the Floating Barge in the Harbour but they were fully booked until 15.00pm so we motored over to the other filling station. We were not leaving this time until we had filled up both tanks with Diesel. We filled up on the starboard tank (the one that ran out crossing to England), it took 836 litres, that filling station is ... read more

Today we visited Lands End, the most South Western Point of England. I have no photos to show for it except a shot of the building as we left the car park. I forgot my camera in the car, but it wasn't terribly exciting anyway, just some shops and a view of the rocky coastline. And we got stuck in traffic for an hour to see it! We ate some nasty food at a pub afterwards. We ordered "jacket potatoes" which is what they call baked potatoes, and we got these dark brown things that tasted like they'd been cooked two weeks ago and reheated. And the "salad" was nothing like any salad I'd ever seen before - it was mostly peppers with corn all over it and watercress on the top! Ew. So me and ... read more
