We departed Falmouth port to the sound of Rod Stewart singing "We are Sailing"; Falmouth is famous for its harbour; and, together with Carrick Roads, it forms the third deepest natural harbour in the world - and the deepest in Western Europe. The sea was calm and the harbour was very beautiful. There was a definite sense of excitement at the Sail Away Party as we set off on this huge adventure.

We had arranged to be on the second sitting for dinner and had asked for a table for 8. We met 5 of our dining companions on this first evening. Donald (a retired major), Pam and Stewart from South Africa, and David and Margaret from Morecambe . Donald's partner was already sea sick and so had stayed in their cabin. It was a very pleasant meal. After dinner we set about exploring the ship.
