After our expedition up the Matterhorn, we walked around the village of Zermatt. There is a glacial river running through the center of town with hills rising on either side dotted with chalets. There are no street addresses, so you just have to follow signs at the intersections and wind your way uphill and around corners to find anything. To get to some of the hotels, you enter a tunnel alongside the river then ascend an elevator 5 stories to the lobby. The tunnels are lined with rooms for ski storage. The main street is cobblestone. It was here that we found Grampi's restaurant for dinner, serving Swiss-Italian cuisine at reasonable prices. We awakened to thick fog over the lake today. Only had the morning to explore before catching the train to Zermatt, so we walked over to the Old Town area to look around. We found a creperie for breakfast with a fantastic menu, however the proprietor explained they don’t actually serve crepes until after noon so we settled for crossaints and tea instead. A note on the crossaints: French crossaints taste like butter flavored air. They are so light that when you take a bite, the dough expands back to its original shape instead of sinking in like the knock-offs in the States! The cathedral was nearby so we stepped in to check it out; it was built in the 1300s! The Chapel of Macabees off to the side is amazingly beautiful. As a bonus, you ... read more

Ok, seriously the best trip ever, the most gorgeous place i have ever seen. I absolutely loved this trip. If you have not been, you must. I will definitely be going back. It was so much different from the city life. Clean, more bikes than cars, wild life, mountains, clear blue water, nice, english speaking people, it was fantastic. The train ride up was not as thrilling. We had a sleeper car; yeah we were packed in there. Six beds in a little room, slightly uncomfortable. I tried to sleep most of the way. But they brought us a nice little breakfast when we woke up and, man, the view when we woke up was amazing. A-ahh, hell to the yes! i dont have much time to talk, but i just want everyone to know that switzerland is the most amazing place ever. i think all the people who actually live here must be people who were really awesome in a past life and God is rewarding them right now by letting them always be in this astounding place. be prepared for a deluge of photos. a few things i have done so far¨, to be explained in greater detail later jumped off an alp (paragliding) lots of petting of animals (sheep, cows, goats, chickens, beetles) mexican food eating american food eating mountain climbing friend making seriously this place is amazing. the past two days have been the best days in my entire life.... read more
