Yes, I've decided to start blogging. I am trying to explain myself 2 things: why didn't I do it before and why am I doing it now. I cant find the Answers. I have no idea. and I don't care (in a different life I would probably go mad over not knowing something but now _ I don't care...I think that its the fact that I don't trust my writing skills, never wanted to write / be a writer / publish my thoughts or ideas. Whenever I was reading other people's blogs or stories I found my self thinking: I wish I could do it, I wish I could write like them. and they are not famous writers. YET. they are normal people. O.k. not normal. they are people. and inspiration. I think that everything is ... read more

This was my first summer trip with Oak Hall, and this time I'd volunteered to work as a cook. More excited about cooking that housekeeping to be honest, and then we got there, and there it was, not only cooking, but housekeeping too! That is one lot of work - thankfully we had some incredibly helpful guests who helped us out, not only in the kitchen, but with the cleaning, which truly is not (as was not) expected, but THANK YOU! The trip (CH10) was to Obergesteln in Switzerland... a fair coach journey away, including an amazing journey over the Grimmelwald pass (which some found less than amazing, and I guess it is quite twisty!). Slight incident on the way down - you would have thought that the Mercedes could see the coach coming (w... read more

I can put it in one word in Hebrew: "hitbarbarnu". The day started fine with muesli for breakfast, and we started to walk to the village of Ferret. I was expecting a nice warm-up as Ferret was only 100m up the valley. Soon, however, the path started to climb and we discovered something was very wrong only after climbing over 200m. We were looking for the way down to Ferret that we saw below us in the valley. Soon there were many people behind us. Everybody made the same mistake (maybe because the signs were bad?) We found a narrow path down and soon enough there was another dilemma: signs that do not match the map and the book. Again there were lengthy discussions with the others, and eventually they all followed our decision to trust ... read more

In fact, we tricked right away... from the beginning... Dana's knees weren't doing very well and after contemplating the whole morning, she asked to take the cable-car to Col du Balme. We climbed several hundred meters in just 15 minutes. Fun... The view from the top is amazing - of course. France is on one side and Switzerland is on the other. A small stone marks the border. Crossing it I can't help thinking of World War 2. Were there any Jews climbing here trying to sneak through to Switzerland? Or maybe this point was too easy to get to and therefore guarded? They definitely couldn't use the cable car, that's one thing I'm sure about. So now we really start walking. A very long descent is ahead of us. As we go the valley opens ... read more

After leaving Lac Leman we drove along the north edge of the lake heading for Chateau de Chillon. The journey was uneventful and we arrived just after lunch and ate at a convenient MacDonalds. Not my favourite choice for eating but it was all that we could find. The chateau is spectacular, an architectural gem set on the edge of the lake and within sight of the Alps. It is the most visited historical monument in Switzerland and it wasnt hard to see why today. The castle and the area around it was full of visitors many Japanese. It is very difficult to think of adjectives to describe this castle built in 1005 - pretty, charming, interesting - the list goes on and on. One can almost imagine Guinevere, King Arthur and Lancelot being inhabitants of ... read more
