So Sweden eh? Havign never been there, I had alot of preconceptions about Swedes and their homeland, all of which turned out to be based on pure fact. Thanks to the beautiful Øresund bridge, I was able to hop on a train, and arrive in Lund no more than an hour later. I was to meet up with Lina, whom along with a friend surfed my couch back in 2006. I messaged her to say what time I would arrive, but did not hear anything back so I went for a walk around the town upon arrival. Many shops and cafés were furnished with Ikea products, there were Saabs and Volvos galore, and nigh on every woman was gorgeous. Three from three for Sweden! After messaging again and getting no respose I set off in search ... read more

As I write this, our Swedish visit is all but over and I am really quite disappointed. Sweden is a wonderful country, one that I would have liked to spend more time in. The contrast with the States could not be stronger, although the weather has been much the same as New York (grey, nothing above 10C). We have been treated particularly well by the Fredriksson's, in a manner in which our own mothers would be proud. This has been a nice change from looking after ourselves for a while. The next step, our bus tour around Europe, will be an interesting combination of the two. Anyway, this is what we have been up to over the last few days. April 12 Today we headed up to Uppsala to meet Lisa at her university campus. We ... read more

Stockholm was a lot of fun! It is such a beautiful city - there aren't many monuments, so we had a really fun time just wandering around all the islands. We found some free museums to go to, so we even learned a little bit about the history - it's a really interesting and rich history! We also went to the National Museum and Modern Museum, which we had to pay to go into, but I'm glad we did! I went with Sarah, a girl from Australia - it was her first time seeing snow! We went on a boat tour which was really great - it got kind of chilly, but we were able to see a lot of interesting sites and learn some of the history of the city. We spent a lot of ... read more

Its been goodbye to New York and on to the quiter pastures of Stockholm. This is what we have been up to for the past few days; April 8 Today was a more 'cultural' day in New York, starting in Central Park. Central Park really is a beautiful place, quite divorced from the rush and stress of New York city. I can see why New Yorkers hold it in such affection; it seems to stand for everything that the city is not. That is, it is beautiful, undeveloped, uncommericalised; a beacon of equality that runs for about 50 city blocks. It is a real pity that Auckland does not have a place like this, at least one located so centrally. Perhaps our beaches take away for much of the need for such a park. From central ... read more

April 9 Today, starting from our 3pm arrival at JFK, was a bit of a shocker. Nothing particularly bad happened, but we did nothing but travel for almost 30 hours (I think; too many time zones!). We started with a 4-hour wait at JFK airport, before a 6-hour flight to Heathrow. The flight itself was no problem, although neither of us got any sleep. Arrival at Heathrow was a bit more of a problem, as we were scheduled for the now infamous Terminal 5 (they have apparently lost 28,000 bags since openly last week). Firstly we were stuck on the plane for half an hour as they waited for buses to transport us to the terminal - this was not all that bad as most of our fellow passengers had left already, so we hung out ... read more

Just 2 days ago I went to Stolkholm, Sweden. It was my first and I knew it's gonna be fun and interesting. I'm aware that it's summer already but still it was snowing at 0 degrees. 30 minutes later when i arrived in the hotel, i was pigging out at "kungshallen" (famous food court in stolkholm) very tasty foods they got and amazingly i finished 1 whole big plate of pork and chips. The following day I ate the same, just can't get over with it, haha.... Early that morning, I headed up to the royal palace, stolkholm old town, the parliament house, nobel museum and watched the changing of guards as I was sitting on the side bench, eating my pork sausage and observing people and chatters of voices at dozens of tongues. Unfortunately, freezing ... read more

Well I made it, my big jump from Madrid to Stockholm and though it was only a three hour flight, they are worlds apart (as you would expect I guess). I spent a few nights in Stockholm doing all the tourist things you have to, then I moved on to Goteberg. Stockholm is a very clean city in fact too clean the buildings are beautiful and everything is on islands and so green and grey (I guess you can expect the grey if you decide to go to Sweden in the winter). In goteberg I stayed with my friend Emanuel who worked at the hostel for 8 months or so. He had the time off work so I had a personal guide to the ins-and-outs of the area. We even took a tour of the Volvo ... read more

Yay, so on thursday i jumped on the trainline and made a weird and in places wonderful trip to a place called Linköping, which is pronounced Lin-Shore-ping, which i found out when asked by the train conductor and confusing her by saying lin-co-ping, or whatever i said, hehehe. It was a bit of a trek, almost three hours on the train, and i still cant find where i was on any maps, though i havent really looked that hard, i have a feeling its kinda south south west of stockholm, a bit, and the place was as far as i could tell kinda boring. There was a really big church though, that it seemed you could see the steeple from wherever you were, which made a good point of reference for when i got lost. I ... read more
