...I'm leaving for a year in China. Feels strangely good, probably since I can't grasp what it is I'm doing. China is to far away and a year is too much time to be able to imagine it and that means I don't know what to be nervous about. My biggest concern is that I'll starve to death the first days because I won't be able to communicate that I'm hungry. And if that is my worst concern it's really ok. Another concern though is the fact that I only can bring 20kg for an entire year...so I don't dare to pack it all in my bag and weigh it because I don't want to realize that I have to leave half of it. Lisa Nilsson is one of the most well established, recognized, not to mention popular Swedish artists. The Swedish queen of soul. Not necessarily my kind of music. But she can - unarguably - sing. And since the concert is in my city...and for free...what the hell...? She does her thing: the hit songs mixed with some rather uninteresting, deep monologue. A solid performance. It is towards the end of the concert she drops the bomb; she describes one of her greatest hits something like "you know when you go to a party, and the only reason you go is because the host promised you your favorite song...a whore song - something you as the host feel obliged to do, although you don't really want to...but at least you can vary it, perform it with a single ... read more

The night ferry between Rostock, Germany, and Trelleborg, Sweden is by no possible means designed to carry regular passengers. A crappy cafeteria, a small shop, a reception that does not strike me as being the most informative ever, and two very small couches outside the shop. Since I have no cabin, I have to settle for the couches. The only other passenger stupid enough not to take a cabin is the young Swedish girl. She has no intention of letting me get any sleep this night. And her means of keeping me awake is by providing tons of information. Some of it slightly interesting, but mostly of nonsense character. Not often does a standard 90 minute train ride in your own home territory make you feel good, particularly when the train is late and you're going to a party. The party in this case is "The Sail" in Karlskrona. A very nice little town in southern Sweden with a nice little summer event. The region is a bit remote, off the tourist trail to Stockholm and Gothenburg and other major attractions in Sweden. Therefore it's a bit surprising that the family next to me speak American English. Not having spoken English in a while, and being a huge fan of just speaking English, I must interfere. Say something stupid like "I can close the blinds if you want".
