Although we were happy to spend another week stuffing ourselves with tapas underneath the orange blossoms in Seville, there was more Andalucian glory to explore a short day trip train ride away in Cordoba. Both Seville and Cordoba are overrun with tourists, however Seville somehow carries it off with class whereas Cordoba felt a little claustrophobic and a little cheap. Maybe it's because the old town in Cordoba is not as big as Seville's. The old town in Seville is also better laid out and more spacious - particularly the area around the cathedral. Yet the Cordoba cathedral is a marvel in itself. Lots and lots and lots of pretty arches. In case you feel that we have skimped on the arch photos, there are plenty more to send if you are an arch-itectural geek ... read more

Today is Tuesday, April 10!!! I cannot believe how fast time has suddenly slipped by me! It's mid-April already! How did that happen? Anyway, I'm still trying to catch-up on last week, but don't worry, you're not missing anything happening in the present time! Tomorrow I'll write about my plans for this weekend....They're exciting! So check back! lol But, for now, back to last Thursday... Thursday, April 5, 2007 On Thursday I met Mom, Dad, and Travis on the street with the funky lamps, Gran Via. We had plans to go to the beach! So, we switched buses and headed to the bus station to see what we could find. By 11:00 we were on our way to Almunecar, a beach on the coast of Granada. Mom had finally remembered to bring the video camera, ... read more

28 March-10 April I took two short trips in between working during the third course and returning to sit for the fourth course. The first trip was back to Barcelona to see about extending my visa to stay in Spain for the rest of the year. In typical lack-of-planning fashion, I neglected to make sure I could stay in Spain for a year before I actually decided to do so, and now it turns out that as an American citizen I can´t stay in Spain longer than six months in any one year. So basically now I have to leave Spain for a while at the end of April so that I can then return and get a new three-month visa. Then, near the end of summer, I will have to say adios to Spain ... read more

So, finally I'm almost caught up! On Saturday I didn't do too much...typed up in Microsoft Word the TravelBlogs that I posted through Wednesday...They're easy to just copy and paste! lol However, I knew that there was only one procession in the city on Saturday and is was supposed to go right down the road where my friend's apartment is, so I called Mett and asked him if Laura and I could come watch the procession, hang out, and use his internet! The procession came down the hill from the Alhambra....which as my family knows, is quite a workout. So we knew it'd be cool. He said we could, so we went and watched the procession fromt the small deck outside his window. It was a great spot to watch it from! We then went ... read more

So after a good night's rest, we took advantage of the free breakfast and decided to head towards the Barcelona Cathedral. After consulting our maps a few times, we made it to the Barcelona Cathedral, which was also under construction, but very cool. We went inside and it was huge! There was a really big area for the choir to sit in as you walk in with a really big pipe organ. Along both sides of the church were big shrines to saints where you could go and light candles. There was also a room solely devoted to prayer. In the front of the church was a giant altar and below the altar was the crypt of Barcelona's patron saint. After leaving the cathedral, we made our way to the Basilica, which was another big church, ... read more

Arrived at Madrid Barajas Airport, one of the bigger airports we have flown into on Tuesday afternoon. Terminals T4 & T4S , which are celebrating their first anniversary, are very impressive! Older terminals, T1, T2 and T3 are drab. Took the metro to our hotel, Hotel Room Mate Mario, a trendy Spanish hotel chain with reasonable room rates for Madrid, centrally located near Plaza de Oriente , Teatro Real and Palacio Real. The Madrid metro is cheap and efficient; however, carrying luggage up and down stairs is a definite negative! We ended the day by hitting our favorite tapas bar at Plaza Santa Ana for great tapas and wine, called the Vinotecha! Our favorite? Brie triangles, they are delicious! Our first full day of sightseeing in Madrid started early, when after having breakfast at our hotel, ... read more

My TravelsSo I decided to change my blog from the old one to this one since I only wrote in the last one a whole 3 time (because it was too confusing to figure out!), so here goes Blog Take 2. So after my family left Ireland, I was off to Barcelona, Spain! Our flight left pretty early in the morning, so after staying up most of the night, I got up at 3am the next morning to catch my bus down to the airport along with Sarah, Seth, Liz, and Caitlin. We got there early, of course, and after having to deal with a few suitcases that were overweight, we got through security and had to wait for a while to get on our plane. We finally boarded our plane and we were off to ... read more

Tarifa to TangiersThe Conley Family We are sitting on the ferry boat to Tangiers, Morocco, waiting to leave from Tarifa, Spain. We hope to get to Fez, because Tangiers is supposed to be like Tijuana times 10. We were not able to secure a guide in Spain, however, and the information we have is that the hotels in Fez are all booked, so we may be back in Tarifa (the Hawaii of Spain) this evening. Friday night we had a fabulous time with Dave Puente and his wife Maria; we met them and their two young daughters, Elena and Carmen, for drinks near Plaza Nueva, and then watched one of the processions coming out off the Iglesia San Geronimo. After the procession, they invited us back to their apartment for Tapas. The boys were able to ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile-La Mancha » Toledo April 8th 2007

Taking the 30 minute AVE train without any stops made the day trip from Madrid to Toledo doable after over three weeks of travelling with exhaustion setting in! Toledo, the spiritual and intellectual capital of Spain, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. By taxi, we drove past Puerta de Alcantara, the town's oldest bridge dating back to Roman times, as we headed from the train station to the walled town of Toledo, with Roman and Moorish architectural influences. We started our self-guided tour of Toledo at the Alcazar, which is unfortunately closed for renovations, since it is at the highest point and it could only be downhill from there! It is perched on the top of a cliff with panoramic views and its architecture dominates the view of Toledo from below. After wandering the narrow lanes ... read more

Hellloooooo!! Having safely made the airport at 4.45am I made my way through security etc, boarded my plane, fastened my seatbelt....only to be told that the plane needed a spare part and we all had to disembark!! After hanging around at Heathrow for 4hrs finally we had a new plane and were off.....Unfortunately I missed the connection on to Quito, (there were 150 people going for connections) and since there´s only one flight a day, they have kindly put us up in a swanky-ish hotel (well its swanky to me seeing as i had a tv n a double bed n an en-suite....im not even expecting hot water in some places) so its actually worked rather well for me!! Met some folks who were also on the plane, n spent the night chatting away-drinking away in ... read more
