The Roman Museum First of all, before I get into today's blog, let me apologize for being so behind. We've enjoyed ourselves so much that when got back to the room, I was too tired to do anything but transfer the day's photos. I'll try to catch up soon... but no promises.
For our second day in Murcia, we didn't plan on more that walking around the town, so we didn't get up that early. We walked down to the transvia (sort of an above ground metro), and road it to the downtown part of Murcia. After wandering around, seeing the Murcia Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace, we walked down to the river Segura to check out the sights there. The was a very unusual statue (?) of a sardine in the middle of the river, called the Monumento al Entierro de la Sardina, or monument to the burial of the sardine. We also walked across the famous Puente de los Peligros (dangerous bridge?) and the Pasarela de Manterola, which is an unusual bridge. Next, we visited the Casino de Murcia, which apparently is no longer a casino, but a very luxurious sort of museum with all sorts of rooms heavily decorated with

One of the many plazas in Murcia. This one with potted plants expensive stuff. It was sort of interesting. By this time, it was time for lunch, so we wandered up the street a ways until we found an interesting place called the Jardin de los Dragones (Garden of the Dragons). We ordered a couple of strange dishes, a bowl of watermelon soup for each of us, and a plate of veggies with quinoa to share. I didn't realize until after I'd looked over the menu, that it was a vegetarian restaurant. Oh well, it was pretty good, and a change of pace for both of us. After lunch, we continued touring downtown Murcia, checking out the bull ring, a small chapel, and the Plaza de Santo Domingo. Before we returned on the transvia, we saw a cafe called Valor, that had what looked likr delicious milk shakes, so we stopped and I ordered a strawberry milkshake. We then decided to call it a day and take the transvia back to our hotel. A bit later in the evening, we went to the local supermarket and picked up a couple things for dinner.
Tomorrow we head to Cartagena, our next town on list.
