Wow, so much to write about. First Asia... what a tragedy. The kind of suffering they´re experiencing there is foreign to us in America, we have nothing with which to compare a disaster like that. I can´t remember anything in my lifetime that has left 60,000 dead and a million people homeless in one short day, it will undoubtedly take several generations for most of those places to recover. Its especially scary for me because my original travel plans for this trip had me placed square on the Indonsian coastline at this time. Only after I started studying French did I decided to change my plan and go to French West Africa. Anyway, I´m in Grenada, Spain. I spent Christmas in Fez with my Moroccan friends. It was a complete non-event since their were no other ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 12. Spain December 2004 Almeria, Cabo de Gata The town of Almeria is just ten miles to the west of our campsite on the coast at El Cabo de Gata, where we are keeping company with many others doing much the same; not a lot, enjoying the sunshine, taking a drive out into the countryside, or walking along the coast and generally taking it fairly easy. We have been here for eleven days now, that’s the longest we have ever been in one place, but there is plenty to do and it’s convenient for the airport on Wednesday. Our site is about a mile from the Mediterranean, smooth as a huge lake and reminiscent of our first view of Lake Huron on a hot summer’s day, and close by a nature reserve ... read more

I've finally left Blighty! I caught the Easyjet flight this morning at 7am, after spending the night at the Stansted Hilton. The Hotel cost more than the flight, although I did get a cheap deal by booking over the net. The plane arrived in Malaga at 10.50am. I've spent the day looking around Malaga, and got my dose of culture by visiting the Museo Picasso Malaga. Tomorrow, I´ll be catching the ferry to Tangier - so I´ll be saying goodbye to Europe and hello to Africa. This is my last day in Europe for some time! The centre of Malaga has some interesting things to see - its been a city since the Phoenicians founded it. It also looked very stunning from the plane when we were coming in to land; framed by mountains and the ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 11. Spain November 2004 Cordoba, Granada, Sierra Nevada and Almeria Where have we been this week? Cordoba, Granada and the Sierra Nevada. Superlatives all the way! Cordoba wasn’t originally on our route, but we’d heard from several people that it was not to be missed. To put this right it was necessary to make a detour of a hundred miles back to the north again and although the weather was clear and sunny there was a definite nip in the air and it was time for jumpers. Cordoba campsite was very convenient, just half an hour’s walk from the historic centre and we spent a couple of days there, enjoying the “small town” feel. The highlights of Cordoba include the Mesquita, a huge mosque which amazingly also houses a Christian cathedral. The ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 10. Spain November 2004 Return to British soil: Fascinating Gibraltar, Estepona, delightful Ronda, breathtaking Grazalema Natural Park, Zahara de la Sierra, Alora, Antequera and Laguna de Fuente de Pietra. Our journey this week has taken us from Tarifa, the southernmost point of mainland Europe, eastwards to Gibraltar - fast (in an hour or so) along the Costa del Sol beyond Estepona and then northwards to Ronda in the mountains. We then headed east and north through Alora with Antequera in our sights. A week of walking, stunning scenery, wildlife, and just a small pinch of culture. Well, you can only take so much culture, can’t you? We left Jimena, 30km north of Algeciras, heading for Gibraltar in the hope of seeing it in sunshine after yesterday’s rain delayed our trip. I guess ... read more

Spain is what lies between my life back home and where the adventure begins so its just a quick 2 day drive through and its a good job to. My last trip was pre Euro and Spain has gone Euro crazy with prices to match the UK somewhere there must be an enormous deficit left in the Euro pot after change over as its been the largest wool pulling over eyes exercise I have seen. You could once gaurantee prices half of that in the UK but no more. AS I head down to Gibralter it is obvious where a lot of money from the UK housing boom is going the south coast is litrally one villmage blended into another. Having arrived in Gilbralter on a Sat afternoon I am surprised to see a hiuge queue ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 8. Spain 30th October 2004 Heading south from Extremadura into Andalucia. Yesterday’s rain provided a welcome boost to the many local reservoirs, quenching for a brief moment the unstoppable thirst of the Costas to the south. The blue skies of morning were peppered with fluffy clouds as we left Merida and the Monfrague National Park. Our road rose from the cork and holm oak slopes of the river valley to fertile groves on top hat hillsides and beyond to the open plains. A wide panorama of Fenland proportions, rolling like the swell of a heavy sea in a chequered display of olives, vines, fruit trees and maize stubble grazed by black pigs; vast fields stretching seemingly a hundred miles to the mountains, a misty purple in the autumn sunshine. A stop at ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville September 20th 2004

Seville is a very charming spanish city. Me and my partner Nicko stayed there for a couple of days during our holiday in Andalucia in september 2004. We had a lovely time. We stayed at a very Nice patio hotel at the C/Lumbreras. A 20 min walk to the historical city center, but you can easily take the circle bus. Rates around 90 euros per room per night, and a parking in the basement. Very nice apartmentstyle rooms with a kitchen and separate bedroom. Website: www.patiosdesevilla.com We visited the Alcazar, the Cathedral and her Giralda, the tower, form where you have stunning views over the city. Where are really the remains of Christopher Columbus ? Is he buried in Sevilla or Santo Domingo ? The controversy has been going on for a century, and the historians ... read more

The hostal in Granada is really amazing place... Ít´s way up on a hill and it over looks the entire town and the alhambra.  I´ll get some photos up as soon as possible.  The people here are pretty cool, but most have staying for months.  The hostal is so cool they never leave.  On the downside it´s extremely cold at nite and no heat.  Well Granada is a amazing city..I like it much more than Cordoba.  The cathedral is amazingly huge and the alhmabra (the ancient arab palace) is too amazing to write down..you can read about i´m sure if you want..There´s lots to do in Granada and it´s been really fun.... read more
