Well woke up nice and early, I think the earliest I have on this whole trip so far. Caught a flight from Dublin to Malaga, Spain. There was some obnoxious kids running around the flight and the parents didnt do anything. I heard one mom say well what do you want me to do, chase him down. haha. Im thinking, well its your freaking kid maybe you should. That was the nice way of explaining my thoughts. ha. But made to Malaga and to my Hostel with no problems after sweating 20 pounds off. I went from Rainy season to Hot as hell here in Malaga. Its a nice change from the rain. Im booked here for two more nights but I think I am going to leave tomorrow instead. Just not really anything here I ... read more

Buenos dias from Andalucia and the sun-drenched beaches of Malaga province in Southern Spain! We arrived in the largest city in southern Spain, Malaga, from Paris via Vueling Airlines, a budget branch of Iberia Air. The climate is Meditarranean and it sure looks like EVERYTHING grows here. The highway medians are overflowing with huge flowering bushes, including the largest hibiscus shrubs I have ever seen. Anyway, we rented a car at Malaga and drove south to our hotel in the little town of Guadacorte, near Los Barrios. Then we headed out and about. Our first stop was a beach near Torremolinos. (See pic ) It is a nice quiet area without too many crowds. Later, we headed to a much larger beach complex with shopping and restaurants called Puerta Banus (See pic.). Thousands of people gather ... read more

So again a blog entry that is going to cover the three days that I spent in Malaga. And again, this is not a sign that Malaga was not interesting ... not at all. It was kind of part of the plan that I would do a little sightseeing in Malaga but mainly it was added as part of the itinerary because of the fact that there were beaches. Ironically, I spent maybe an hour or two at the beach and made most of my new freckles by the pool at the hotel. I didn't even know that the hotel had a pool until I walked down the hallway towards my room and caught a glimpse of it. I was already doing a dance of joy simply based on the fact that my room had a ... read more

These pictures were taken during the first three weeks of our stay here Spain. We are in Andalucia in Southern Spain, which is new territory for all of us. Our house is located on the side of a hill overlooking a small valley northwest of Comares which is approx. 15 kilometers northwest of Malaga on the Mediterranean Coast. Comares is a gem of a little pueblo that clings to the top of a mountain just 2 or 3 kilometers away (as the crow flies). We are surrounded by groves of olive and almond trees which cover the hills. There are cacti and other exotic plants all around. Because it's been such a rainy Winter and early Spring here, the hills are especially green for this time of year. The sound of the goats and sheep as ... read more

Yesterday we missed out visiting Museo Piccaso and that is now top of our list of place to see in Malaga Centre. The first thing we wanted to do in the city centre was, to buy a map of city tour. I pulled a map from a display unit outside the tourist shop and began searching for the Museo Picasso. The information would have been freely obtained if I had been able to find the street name of the museum. I couldn't find it on the map so I start questioning the sales assistant who couldn't figure out where it is. She had to ask her assistance to help me. He pointed out a couple of places in Spanish but I wasn't convinced to buy the first map. So I went for an expensive map, that’s ... read more

The Easter break is around the corner. The Royal wedding gives everyone in the U.K. to have an unusual extended Easter break at home. While most of them decided to stay at home and patriotically celebrate the Royal wedding in front of the television, we decided to fly to Costa del Sol 'Sunny Coast'. We expect nothing else but sun! Phoenicians, Roman and Arabs ruled the city over 1000 years and left behind what they could not take away with them. The Christian force purified the region by knocking down mosques and building churches and cathedrals. Those heydays are long gone and the history of those mighty rulers are now limited to some outstanding monuments across the region. At present, tourists are mainly British arrive in full battalions to overtake the sun-drenched coastal area. Malaga is ... read more

Malaga (Spain) Normally, before going on a vacation, I spend some time on The Net and do a lot of research about the region we are planning to visit. However, our Andalucía vacation was an exception, because my daughter had decided that we should spend some time with her family at a home-stay at Malaga. We were, of course, very willing. Who wouldn’t like to spend time with their grand-daughter, daughter and son-in-law? We also decided to visit Brazil as a side-trip from Malaga and as this was an afterthought, we had to juggle our flights and travel-plans quite a bit. This kept me rather too busy because now the focus had shifted from Spain to Brazil. Crazy? Yes, everybody called us that and we agreed but we DID finish this crazy itinerary ultimately. The only ... read more

As soon as it was announced that there would be a bank holiday to celebrate the marriage of Kate Middleton and the Prince of Wales - and as soon as I realised that it was the weekend after Easter meaning that three days off would get me an eleven day break - I without hesitation booked the three days off before any of my colleagues could. Thank you so much Will and Kate, I am so happy for you, really. You guys are awesome. The day off was meant to be so that we could all join in the celebrations - I would be "celebrating" in Morocco. I had always wanted to do a two-week trip to Morocco, so this break was perfect. I also decided to take a couple of extra days off so that ... read more

Went to Málaga on this day to see the ocean because one the students hadn’t seen an ocean or been to the beach. It turned out to be yet another bluebird day. It was a perfect day to go to the beach; well not entirely because the waves were quite high and it wasn’t exactly swimming weather. The students did roll up their pant legs and go wading. They enjoyed themselves doing this. Málaga is a modern seaside tourist town. Since the mountains come down fairly close to the ocean, the town itself is strung out along the beach. To my eye it lacks the charm of say Portofino or Amalfi. This area is quite popular with the Brits and to my understanding it is virtually overrun by them during the high season. We once again ... read more
