Wow, today was a lot of fun. I headed back towards Trieste, Italy (but stayed in Slovenia) to an underground cave system called Skocjan. It was huge. In America only Mammoth Caves and Carlsbad Caverns are larger. The tour was about an hour and a half through 2 separate caves areas. One was the silent cave and the other was the murmuring cave because it has a river flowing through it. I'm telling you, the caves were absolutely huge. I bought the book on them they were so impressive. I took a couple pictures although we weren't really supposed to and other people were as well. I also drove about 40 km per hour over the speed limit, so I didn't feel so badly. The caves were filled with Stalagmites and stalactites and columns, where the ... read more

I am once again at a hotel with internet access through the hotel computer, so no pictures again. If I find an internet bar, I will see what I can do. Driving up here from Firenze was actually very easy. I only made one wrong turn, exiting the autostrade, but I was able to fix it quickly and easily. Trying to figure out where I need to go while driving with the flow of traffic was exciting in itself. I stopped in Trieste for coffee. To celebrate, I had 2 cappuccinos. 1 to drink and the other to wear on my shirt. Grrr. So I bought a nice cafe au lait colored long sleeve polo in Trieste. Guess it was meant to be. On my way out of Trieste, I passed the Illy plant, or at ... read more

Ladies and gents, ponovno pozdravljeni v oddaji Spet ne doma. Tokrat vas bomo popeljali nekam, kamor Ivina noga še ni stopila, nekam, kamor je Juri Muri odšel e zavnaj, nekam tja dol v A-A- uh? Avstralijo? - Afriko! Natančneje v Ugando, v Kabale, kjer domuje organizacija Edirisa (www.edirisa.org). Ta bo naslednje tri tedne moja razširjena druina.

It happens every year. In the last half of November all the old friends keep in touch and decide where to spend New Year's day. The tradition of going somewhere abroad has been going on for a while now and it all started in 1999 when we went to Prague. This year was doomed by indecision: someone wanted to go back to Spain, after the great experience of last year in Madrid. Others were opting for somewhere closer, since everybody was lacking time and I was the only one on a long vacation. Umberto had this brilliant idea: Ljubljana, the capital of neighbor Slovenia. Unfortunately only three of us made it there: myself, Umberto (Umbe) and omnipresent Claudio (Gillo). Getting there from Venice is really a piece of cake: about two and a half hours driving. ... read more

We decided to celebrate our final days in London by going on 'Our last Trip' to Ljubljana, Slovenia. It had taken us about three months to get our tongue around the pronunciation of the word and had no clue on what to expect!! Apart from a war with Yugoslavia in the early 90's there was not alot we did know about the place! In actual fact our Europe guide book had all of three pages on Slovenia which does not necessarily give the sense that there is a lot happening!!! After arriving mid afternoon we decided to go for a walk to the city centre. The city centre was spectacular with its Christmas decorations and snow falling! The decoration consisted of all the planets, comets, the sun, the moon, stars and angels hanging over the streets, ... read more

This morning was possibly our earliest start yet in our travels, we even made time for breakfast. We caught the bus to Postojna pretty easily and the journey took us approximately an hour. We knew that the cave tours didn't begin until ten in the morning, however the bus timetable really didn't mesh with the cave timetable in any way shape or form. We jumped off the bus at the station which is in the middle of the town, it felt like a ghost town. It was ten to nine in the morning but there was very little movement anywhere. We had a glance around the square and easily found a sign directing us to the caves. It took little over five minutes to get to the main entrance to the caves and then we found ... read more

The temptation of breakfast was great enough that I actually got up for it despite feeling seriously sleep deprived. We didn't really have plans for the day, so when breakfast was finished we returned to our room after putting on a wash. We both slept for a while however it was Rob who had to drag me out of bed to ensure that we actually did something in the day. When we both were ready we walked over to the other side of the water and found ourselves caught up in a mass of tourists perusing the markets. We had a quick look around but unsurprisingly the stalls hadn't changed since we had previously looked around. We found the funicular but we decided against it; partly because you had to pay and partly because we had ... read more

We had been fore-warned that there was some work being done at Park Hotel thay may cause a little disturbance from 9-5. We had set our alarm for nine so that we could waken \ without the sound of drilling. Around twenty past eight we were woken by the sound of hammering; we ignored it and continued to lay in bed until the incessant drilling began just before nine. We couldn't stand the loudness of it and reluctantly got up and went for breakfast. Surprisingly breakfast was completely worth getting up for. There was cereal, bread, spreads, cheese, meats, cooked stuffs, juices and hot Chocolate etc. We thoroughly enjoyed it and Rob had a field day with it being unlimited. Somehow we have managed to get a broken piece of the stylus stuck in the pda ... read more

We woke up early however there wasn't a cat in hells chance we were getting through the bathroom so I jumped into Rob's bed to wait. We lay there for about an hour whilst the rude German men, completely oblivious to anyone else took their time showering etc. Eventually there were only a few lingerers so I "politely" explained that I couldn't get dressed with them all hanging around. We dressed quickly but still had to ask to get a chance to go to the bathroom with each German presuming it was their birth right to go in the bathroom first and to take their sweet time about it. Once downstairs we went on the internet to check if anyone missed us and then set off to the train station. We were very early for the ... read more
