Over 3 hours at the bus stop. Not exactly fun time. We did the walk pretty easily, pushed ourselves along to get there with time to spare as our last host had checked the timetables and had said the bus left at 1:46. We saw a bus come and go (just) at about 12:45 whilst we were having an icy pole so I think the host’s research was not correct. Anyway from what I can work out the next bus is just after 4 and if that doesn’t work out there’s one a little after 6.
Today’s walk climbed steeply from the the start and got us to our highest point for quite a few days. The scenery remains spectacular, with soaring mountains, steep sided gorges, streams and waterfalls dotted along the trail and the ever present verdant green of the forests.
Although it’s sunny and blue skies the dense tree cover provides some respite whilst in the forest and walking conditions are good. Anything outside the forest, that is, through fields or on the road, becomes instantly hot and quiet draining.
Did not see the Swiss team today. We had an early start, hoping to keep to
timetable arrangements but sort of expected them to pass us on the trail. We are only just off the trail now but I’d be surprised if they came past. Had dinner with them last night at a restaurant owned by an Englishman, cooked by a guy who had lived in Melbourne for a while and someone who came from Crete where we will be walking soon! The company was good as was the food and the couple of drinks. Bye Swiss, you should be on your way home.
We are in Cave de Predil now after walking into Italy. The Italians are louder than the Slovenians but that’s really of no consequence here. The town is very much an old mining town, with museums dedicated to mining and a mine tour that is quite a big thing. The scars visibly mar the landscape and I think even some mineral content has leached into the local lakes.
We made it to Kransky Gora and although I got soaked when I went for Radlers at the local market we are comfortable and happily ensconced in a very nice hotel in this one of the bigger tourist towns we
have encountered.
Back in Slovenia after our walk to Italy. Accomodation must have been scarce in Italy as we were transported back here and tomorrow we will be transported back there.
Kransky Gora is busy and the super market was bustling with obvious tourists. Obvious because they buy drinks in bulk, be it water, sparkling water, beers or wines they are easy to spot. If the markets sold ‘cooked chooks’ they would make a fortune! This is the home of the ‘kransky’ sausage but I have seen a restaurant that appears to sell them. I can get pizza everywhere and other fast foods but…
Almost time to go. The bucketing rain has come and gone so we venture out. See you soon
