Had a very lovely day today 😊
Checked out from Ljubljana and caught a bus north-west to Bled - it was a pleseant enough journey, driving through some small towns and farmer fields, with picturesque mountains in the background.
Driving into Bled, I couldn't hlp but smile. Within 10-min I knew I was going to love it here. And after an hour or so, I was seriously questioning whether Iceland is still my favourite/most beautiful place I've been.
My hostel is beyond fabulous - more about that in a later entry. Long story short, great hostess and I got upgraded from a 3-bed, to a 2-bed, by myself! Party! My stuff is now everywhere, all across the room haha. Perfect for when I need to re-pack.
I went to the supermarket, made some lunch and then headed back into town to take in the sights... which is essentially, the lake.
And what a lake it is!!
The colour, the landscape, the island, the birds, everything. Just stunning.
And as per usual with stunning spots, photos don't do it justice.
The water is turqoise in parts, and then vibrant blue royal in others. Mountains
surround the lake, and perched upon one of them is the Bled Castle. At one end of the lake is a small island with a church upon it (I'll be visiting there later). There is a whole flock of ducks nibbling up bread and any other goodies being thrown at them, and there are even a few graceful swans parading the waters as well.
I didn't walk around the entire lake - as today was a travel day, I was a total blah and mess haha, so didn't feel like doing a bunch of self-photos, which will definitely happen once I actually walk the entire thing. From what I did see today though, it's amazing... I can't wait to actual see as much as possible over the next few days.
The only non-peaceful thing I experienced today? While walking back up along the river, there was a car crash - I turned just in time to watch one of the cars skid sideways and fall down a flight of stairs. Thankfully the car didn't flip and noone was on the stairs at the time... everyone looked ok - just the front ends of the cars were totally smushed.
Anywho. I continued on my merry way and went to grab a piece of Bled Cake... which is sort of like millefeuille, but without the top level of the hard white icing thing. It's very nice.
I then went for supper (clearly, I had to have my cake first! haha) at a nice pizzeria that's part of this historic Slovenian restaurant. (I was craving pizza for some odd reason) It was a great price - 5.80 euro for the small pizza, which will now serve as my supper tomorrow as well because it was huge! I also had a beer, of course, and now feel like a happy lazy sloth, full of pizza and beer.
I debated waiting for the sunset on the lake, but considering I had half a pizza in my purse... that will just have to wait until tomorrow or Monday.
