My host in Timisoara did not give me a number or an address and so when I got there just after lunch, I had no idea where I was or if I had a place to stay that night. The lady behind the info counter at the train station was nice enough to let me into her cubicle and search for the train timetable for my next destination but couldn't tell me anything else since she didn't speak English. I later found out that it was atypical behaviour and probably because I was a tourist. *shrug* eh, at least there's a perk to this tourist thing. I wandered around for a bit but couldn't figure it out so I stopped a guy who was speaking on the phone in English (after he hung up, of course) ... read more

30-08-08 Go West… To Timisoara, eventually It probably seems as though traffic gets more than its fair share of commentary in this blog, on days like this it’s no surprise. We had seen large queues of traffic heading the other way when we were coming into Romania, unfortunately now it was our turn to join the queue. It took us 9 hours to drive about 200 miles yesterday on one of Romania’s main highways. There were road works ever mile or two, in all they must have ripped up 100 miles of road, this when school holidays are ending and Romanian Italians are heading back to Italy was not a good mix. We lane split when we could but generally it was single narrow lanes and no hard shoulder, and coping with the Romian Italian driving ... read more

Wo findet man pampiges Essen? Dummer-Touri-Bonus. Es ü... read more

I used to say to be full of happiness is a matter of taking risks. I took a baggage, put it on my back and I went all by myself to Romania without knowing what was expecting me. It was the first time I was doing something like that. We only are 22 years old once in a all life, so we must take a chance while we can, and I did it. I went to Timisoara, Romania for an Astronomy course along with more 22 Engineering students from all around Europe. During 15 days I lived with other students from countries like Spain, Greece, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Italy, Belgium, Germany, etc… BEST courses were invented for this. To get all Students from all Europe connected. We should not limit ourselves to our own country and ... read more

As I write this, we are somewhere in Romania but we're not actually sure where. We left our homes Tues. morning around 9:30 a.m. and arrived at our first night's lodging Wed. afternoon around 3:00 which is about 1:30 a.m. local time. Don't ask what day cause right now I'm not sure what day it is. I do know that it is about 8:00 a.m. now and 10:00 p.m. home time. We feel much better now with a little bit of sleep. Our sentences make more sense now and we are not quite so quick to laugh at things that really weren't all that funny. Our flights were all good. Traveling was very easy thanks to Uncle Matt. Uncle Matt & Brian (his grandson) actually pulled in right behind us at Sea-Tac when we were unloading ... read more

We had heard acount couchsurfing from a few people but it was the German hicthhiker that really convinced us to give it a go. Basically its a website with people who have a couch or have some space to accomadate fellow travellers. A great resource for travellers as it gives the opporunity to meet local people and also have a free nights accomadation. Our couch surfing host in Timisoara was Rasvan, a Romanian who studied in Timis and is now working for an IT company there. Rasvan is true gent, he had some friends up from his home town that night and Shilpa made us all a curry which went down well with everybody. Rasvan took us into town with his mates for a few beers and we had a fantastic sleep on his very comfy ... read more

On February 23, my departure date from Kenya , I got to visit one more orphanage in Nairobi . I was thrilled to see Little Kanini (the 3 yr. old that had been left in the Remand Home- the juvenile detention center in Nakuru). She now sleeps in a room with other children her age instead of a room full of children convicted of various crimes. The staff said she often bangs her head, bites herself and has a lot of emotional problems. The child needs help just like so many of the other babies that lay in their beds with various problems. More than anything I pray for more volunteers to go work with the kids. There were 96 kids there, no schooling, no therapy and few staff members. The director was very kind and ... read more
