We‘re tired after a few busy days in a row, so we sleep in and then spend the morning lazing around the apartment. We head out for a stroll around Sliema and get a snack lunch by the waterfront. It‘s Saturday, and there are lots of people swimming and lying on the rocks. We head to the shopping mall to look for some gifts for our kind hosts. Louis told me a couple of days ago that a recent survey showed that Malta has the worst obesity rate of any country in the European Union. The same survey however showed that the Maltese people are the second happiest in Europe. I suspect that these two results might be linked. Maltese people certainly seem to enjoy their food, and I reckon that if they were less obese ... read more

Arriving back to the UK yest am, our 4am getuyp this am was slightly rough but it so didnt matter cos its easter and we're off to Malta! We went down to the bus stop to catch the 4.20 bus and got in time to see our bus just drive straight past us even though we had tickets!! So we were a weeny bit worried as if the next one wasfull we didnt actually have tickets for that oe and would miss our flight. sarah was finding her own way there and karla was supposedly on the bus after us. The next one came at 5am running late too and the guy eventually let us on it thankfully but was not hapy about it! Hardly our fault. We sat down realised karla was sitting next to ... read more

Today we travel back to the UK to spend one night there before we head off for Hong Kong for our final four nights. We were hoping for a bit of sunshine today to top off our tans but it is rather overcast, as was yesterday. The car had to be back by 10.30 am so we finished packing our parcel to mail back home which was 19kg. It cost us €81.00 send back which is considerably less than excess baggage. After w got back from taking the car, we had a few hours just to finalise packing until we were picked up to take us to Luqa for our flight to Heathrow. We have had a really great holiday in Malta and it’s sad to leave. We have seen so much, yet there is still ... read more

Today we spent a very quiet day just chilling around. We picked up our hire car about 11 am and headed off to the beach. We were going to go to Golden bay but instead ended up at Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, the bay next door. There is quite a steep walk down to the beach but well worth it as it was reasonably protected from the wind. There is a bit of rubbish on the beach and really needs to be maintained a bit better for safety and aesthetic appearance. We stayed here for about 2 hours and had a swim, the water is still a bit chilly, before we headed up the damn steps and back to the car. As planned we then headed to the Ta’ Qali craft village which has been created in ... read more

Today we had a very quiet day and just spent a bit of time around Mellieha village. We also spent some time around the pool just soaking up some rays. We did a bit of shopping in town, bought some scratchies (winning €5) and just wandering around doing the touristy thing. In the evening we had dinner out at an old mill in Mellieha. This mill was built during the time of the Knights of Malta and so dates back to around 1600. The meal was extremely enjoyable. I had Norwegian Salmon with a pernod sauce and Gina had pan fried rabbit. The fish was good however some of the rabbit was a little tough. As I said, a quiet day but lots more to come tomorrow when we plan to go to the old capital ... read more

This is it. Today we are off to Malta where it has been 42 years since I last set foot on this little rock in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. A very early start today. We had to get up at 5 am to leave before 6 o’clock to get the car back to Avis before 7 am. Anyway we made it in time so no extra charges for late return. We did complain about the state of the car when we got it and they gave us an upgrade voucher for our next car hire. Only problem is, is that it’s only valid for six months. After we returned the car, we were taken to the terminal by courtesy car. We had to wait about an hour before the check in opened for our ... read more
