Leaving Rome Having several hours to spend before the departure time at 1:20 am, I was in no hurry to reach Tiburtina station back in Rome. I love night train, as I could sleep anywhere, maybe this is the reason why the Hardy boys decided not to join me for Milan trip. After Edinburgh and Venice, they said they have had enough with anything night transporter. So, with a set of tickets €29.37 for Roma-Milano and €27.37 for Milano-Roma, I am ready to embrace my new adventure in Milan. I tried to walk as slow as possible to the designated train platform, since I knew that I had more than two hours to spend waiting for the train to depart. Spent couple of hours sketching the FS train locomotive, before hearing the Binario changing for Milano ... read more

To finish summing up Florence, i am glad i went, i am glad i aw all that great art and the duomo, but i won't go back for a long time. Rome.... didn't expect to like it, but i really like it here. this city is great except for the public transit and where we are staying of yeah, and it is really hot. minor details, cause the rest is so good.ù Rome has personality and atmosphere, you can just walk around, and that is an activity. The combination of the Roman tradtions and the Catholic stuff provides great variation, contrast, and a rich atmosphere. So far we have been to the National Muesum, which had great archeological artifacts and gorgoeus mosaics.I really like the mosaics, they are all over the place and fantatically intracate. We entered Venice from Salzburg, Austria. Venice is a dream location for lotz of thai people and this name goes str8 to our mind once we talk about honeymoon trip. so It's probably the most famous destination for just-married couples. However to spend few days there is like to live in Voronezh(russia) for 3 months: food is extremely expensive( at least for a student like me) but it's something u shouldnt miss. With tons of tourists flowing into the city every summers, it was quite chaos and looks like multicultural city. From outside everything look old but inside all are absolutely clean and neat. Sailing along those canals with Gondolla does make big bucks out of japanese tourists. We did camping on the mainland Veneto and took a boat there and back everyday. Pegians at ... read more

I had a really good title in mind but I can't think of It now. Yeah we got up at 4am this morning to get to florence. We've been walking ever since. I'm very tired and my feet hurt. We met Lauren and Rob yesterday in Pisa which was good then we went to the beach which was fun too. Florence is really expensive. We went to 4 or 5 places today all of which cost 4-6€ to get in and the hostel was way more than we usually pay. On top of all that I somehow managed to lose a 50€ bill today which really hurt. That's about it because I'm too tired and hungry to write a good entry. Caren wrote a really detailed entry you can read here about our past 2 days ... read more

Quiet and calm Lucca seems a world away from Florence. Ill go chronologically... We spent sat afternoon in Lucca, playing on the wall, eating more fantastic gelato, and going to a villa with a great garden. Tania and i went back to the hostel early (7). She decieded to have a quiet night there, and Josh, the American we ate dinner with the night before, and i went seeking more pasta. We found more pasta and some meat, spliting a fresh tagliatelle with cream and fungi (yes, fungi, it is on almost everything, so i figured id try some). It was fantastic, exactly what i thought italian pasta should be. We also split veal marsala and carpaccio... yum. Then more gelato and wall walking. In the morning Tania and I headed to Pisa to meet Lauren ... read more

Naples is not that impressive, at least from our first glance perspective. As soon as we landed on the marina from Capri ferry ride, we had to walk across a city to our designated hostel, including through one of those LONG tunnels that were loud, smell and not pedestrian friendly. Walking by several pictures of people with flowers around them, all of the sudden it occurred to me; I do not want to have my picture added to the pile, so we better paid more attention to these crazy Italian drivers who were zooming by within only inches from us. Reaching the Bay of Naples area by dusk, we still need to walk for at least another two miles to get into a secluded area where the HI-Hostel International Naples is located. We would use our ... read more

Caren and I are in Lucca right now which is exactly the kind of place we needed and wanted after Turin. It gets visited by enought tourists that people speak at least some enlish and it is very cute and relaxing. It is a tiny little city with lots of big old churches surrounded by a big wall. We walked around the wall this morning and this afternoon we are going to take a bus out to see a villa. We got to empty our memory cards today which is good cause i had already filled up a card and a half. We will probably have to empty them again in Rome and then I don't know how I'm going to get through greece with the limited space until we get back to france. The hostel ... read more

Plans change... Tania and i left Turin and headed down to Lucca. What a fantastic choice! Lucca is a small town, just touristy enough that people speak some english. We met an American on the train (as soon as i spotted him i knew he was from the USA). Turn out he is from Park Slope, small world. So the 3 of us headed to the Hostel here. It is a really nice building, with huge rooms. Tania and i explored town, walking on the wall (its a very old, very thick defensive wall) and through the streets. It is easy to orient yourself here, lots of towers and the wall helps. I got the best gelato EVER here, it makes Ciao Bellas Valhrona Chocolate seem weak. I got banana too, which went well with the chocolate. ... read more

Arriving in Naples and Ruins of Pompeii Started the day way early in the morning, we caught our morning train at 6:49 am. As we were heading even more south, the weather was promising: blue sky, hot humid air, and beautiful panorama. We didn’t have a proper breakfast, so as soon as we arrived at Napoli Centrale at 9:30 am, we stormed in into the first breakfast place in the sight: McDonalds. I was surprised to see many Asian tourists here in McDonalds and Naples in general. We rode the 10:41 pm Circuvesuvia Train to Pompeii from Naples for €2.20, which considers to be expensive here. Pompeii is a tourist haven; there are many tourist booths selling souvenirs, Pompeii books in all languages you could think of, and colorful t-shirts. Beyond the hassle at the entrance, ... read more
