Hello from Tuscany, Today was our first day we were out and sought out villages and countryside. Tuscany has had a drought this summer so it looks quite dry. We visited 4 villages today San Quirico d' Orcia, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino. It's hard enough finding them and also pronouncing them ? We are staying in a small hotel for 3 nights while we try to escape with our lives driving. I thought Romanian's were the worst. Not anymore. After tomorrow we will move to the north of Tuscany for a few days then to the coast to see the Cinque a Terre (4 villages) Hope all is well with youall. Today I took about 125 photos. would you believe not one would upload ? I'm really sorry. And frustrated maybe tomorrow. Chow Lowell... read more

Our next stop after Monterigioni was the medieval town of San Quirico D’Orchia set again in some stunning Tuscan countryside. We have been drinking Tuscan Chianti in homage to the lovely landscape and campsite that we find ourselves in. The town has defeated us many times before. We have seen it on Google Earth and we have seen car parks which sadly cater for cars rather than camping cars so we have always had to pass it by on its by pass . Today though come hell or high water we were getting in there. Sally Sat Nav was armed with co-ordinates for the local sosta /parking spot was camping cars and we wound our way down narrow streets and through the houses until we reached the car park. It was totally empty apart from one ... read more

We started our trip in San Quirico D'Orcia and it's like to start with the best wine and than move to Coca Cola (not that there is something bad about Coke, i like it). San Quirico is - for me - heart of Tuscany, THE place to go when you want to be inspired and just create. There is that magical old town (i didn't know by than that there are a lot of magical old towns around Tuscany:)) If you visit this place, don't miss the bookshop (just ask for it the locals, there is only one:)) and if you like eating in the garden, go to Trattoria Osenna. They are very very nice to tourists and will suggest you something special for your taste. It was short trip, so we moved almost everyday - ... read more

Spent 4 days exploring and discovering the delights of Central Tuscany and the rolling countryside and hilltop towns basking in the sunshine are a delight to behold. The first stop was MONTERIGGIONI which is a beautifully preserved medieval hilltop town totally surroundeded by high stone walls with 14 heavily fortified towers. We were based in SAN QUIRICO D'ORCIA , another hilltop town and from our hotel we had an inspiring Tuscan panorama. Not too far away was the town of PIENZA again on a hilltop and having the distinction of being completely redesigned in Renaissance times by Pope Pius . On our second day we walked from our hotel to a small medieval spa town called BAGNO VIGNONI. The walk, being about 10km took us up and over rolling countryside , in and out of woods ... read more
