Searching for Dana
First I want to say I’m sitting in San Gimignano at the Doumo Plaza sipping on my wine writing this blog. Kirsten is shopping at the shops next door. A street performer is playing and singing. I’m one step closer to heaven.
Well our day started around 8:30 AM, Kirsten and I are just waking up. I slept so well and so did Kirsten. Not to mention the liquid sleeping pill I drank. Also, the bed was a marsh-mellow.
Today we decided to continue our exploring of Padua. We drove into town along with all the tourist and folks that are going to work. Beep, Beep, grinding gears and screeching of tires.
We finally found a parking place. I’m so starved that I jump out of the car and started looking for a cute café. I found a very cute one within minutes in front of the domo. After breakfast we visited the Baptistery. This one was dedicated to John the Baptist. It is beautiful the walls and ceiling are covered in frescos. After leaving the Baptistery Kirsten found a market. She was so excited, so we purchased our cheese, fruit, meat and wine.
I see a picnic coming.
We made out way toward the final two cathedrals’. One was closed but St Anthony’s wasn’t. He’s the saint for Padua and you pray to St Anthony if you lose something.
After walking through St Antony’s cathedral we have our picnic lunch in the courtyard in front of the cathedral. We then say good-bye to Padua and get on the A11 and Kirsten floored the VW Polo we rented. It’s neither as nice nor fast as the Audi we had a few years earlier.
Three hours later we’re pulling into San Gimignano. This is where our trip and Dana’s trip meet. So were sitting in the plaza people watching hoping we see Dana
Well it’s 8 PM and we haven’t seen Dana, we have dinner reservations at 8 PM and were late. Kirsten & I gulp down the last of our Chianti and head to the restaurant. By the way it right around the corner from our hotel room. Were staying in the city tonight. With the Internet it has become much easier to find hotel rooms at the last minute and to match the price point that has been required.
Basically I no longer have to lie about the price like I used to. Not that I’ve ever lied about how much I paid for a room.
We get to the restaurant. I’m expecting this meal to be better than last nights. Well it was good not great. I had chicken and Kirsten had pork. However, my desert was taken from me by Kirsten and quickly eaten. I had a glass of Grappa instead. Yea, I’ll drink my calories.
It’s 10:30 PM Kirsten and I are strolling back to our hotel. She’s ready for some sleep; me I’m wired as usual.
I hope everyone is enjoying the blog. Tomorrow were going to Voltaire, an Etruscan city.
From there we go to Grieve and join the Chianti Classico Festival.
