Geo: 46.2415, 11.1918Our bunkmate Frank mentioned last night that he was traveling with a lady friend. We finally met Sabine ... no wonder Frank was so secretive when talking about her - a cutie! All 4 of us walked to the bus station; Mike and I kept walking (him to FNAC for the internet and me to the grocery store). It was quite a far walk for me but I felt like it. Ate on the train to Bolzano - an amazing lunch with delicious delicate prosciutto (not too salty). Cheese that was similar to boccocini but it had the appearance of camembert or brie. It was a little bland but provided a perfect balance for the richness of the prosciutto. A little bread and I was in culinary heaven! At the hostel in Bolzano ... amazing! ... read more

This entry involves only italian friends in Italy. Hence, it is written in italian. We will try to keep the blog in both english and italian in the future. Unfortunately, The Alps were between me & Romania. It’s a tough job but, someone had to do it. From Parma, I headed north to the south shore of Lake Garda. My route took me along the west bank of Lake Garda. Quite an impressive road as it is dug out of a sheer cliff face. About half the time was spent diving into tunnels dug in the cliffside then darting back out into the bright sunshine. Continuing north towards Madonna Di Campiglio, I traversed the northern Italian wine growing regions. If there were ever an Olympics for scenery, Italy would be on the podium ... read more

Day 13 - Thursday 24th February Unfortunately the Youth Hostel did not have a cafeteria and so Heather and I had to find someway local to eat - no problem though only the language. We started hitching at 10am and the first lift drove us 16 miles to Roverto and after a two hour wait, the next lift drove us 7Km further down the road but left us away from the town. Only one car stopped but it was too small to cope with our rucksacks. Eventually a lift to Verona and it was 3pm - 5 hours for 60 miles was not what you call very good progress. Unfortunately we were left on the wrong side of Verona and all of the cars which stopped were going to either Milan or Brescia - west of ... read more
