Thunder today. I sit outside, listening, while my spaghetti cooks. Waiting for the rain. The riotous birds are silenced at each outburst of the clouds, then start up again in full concert. I go back to cooking, catch a few flashes out of the corner of my eye, then come outside again. A woman across the courtard and a floor up pokes an inquisitive nose out, assesses the sky, and yanks a sweater from her line. The cover of her balcony twitches shut behind her, a gesture of annoyance. As for me, I couldn't be happier when the rain comes drumming in. I hang over the edge, turn my face up. I'm sure its full of poison but I can pretend its pure. Its a real downpour, the first one I've seen for a while, even ... read more

Post exam elation and immediately pre-exam jitters. Why I don't study for these things I'll never know. I must enjoy shooting myself in the foot. Maybe I'm addicted to the adrenaline. Also, yet again, while I was waiting and watching, during the blink of an eye that I wasn't paying attention, everything bloomed. Cherry trees, new insanely green leaves against black bark, roses, some other fragrant yellow flower. Nothing in the Naviglio district, but soon there will be, Im sure. It's spring! I'm going to Scotland tomorrow! ... Went to the Salvador Dali exhibit this afternoon. Came out slightly more insane than when I entered. I love his work, but this particular show, which was amazing for its size, seemed to showcase series of engravings and paintings that were inspired by, or completed for, books of ... read more

I'm finally (finally!!) settled into a kind of schedule, and managing to not get myself into too horrible of scrapes anymore (but hey I still have two more months!). I'm progressing almost insanely w/ my music, mainly working on Cherubino and another aria from Clemenza di Tito, although both Patrizia and I generally agree that I'm lazy and have a lot more work to do to be perfect (i.e. the rest of my career) lol. Anyway I love her to death, and love the music I'm doing. I've conquered my neighborhood as far as exploring goes and am now ranging a bit farther afield. I'm going to more exhibitions and museums, photography and modern art mostly. I've neglected somewhat the older treasures of the city, but...soon. Im going to a Salvador Dali show tomorrow, and then ... read more

Date: 27.12.2004 Destination: Milan and Venice, Italy Day: 1 We started our 6-7 days trip to Italy and Switzerland just days after Christmas and days before New Year. I bought a Eurail Ticket for 3 countries (Germany, Italy and Switzerland) and have it sent to me straight from Malaysia. This ticket let me use any of the fast or slow train for a total of 6 day. Cheaper compare to point-to-point ticket. So, off we go to Milano for our first stop. We went there with the night train from Duisburg and the journey is from 7pm until 9am. It was pleasant because not much people on the train and it went pass the Switzerland border. For the first time, I saw snow and lots of them, blanketing the whole small town. I am not sure ... read more

I have arrived and am here in my apartment. As I was walking down my street I saw all of these beautiful apartments with balconies. They all looked really nice except for this one on the end with graffiti all over the place. I kept saying please don’t be mine, please don’t be mine. Bui guess what? It is my building. I received another shock because I thought the apartment was two-bedroom not a two bed room. But there is surprisingly a lot of space and tons of closet room. The best part is I have a balcony. The view isn’t the best but I sit out there every morning. I also have a maid who comes everyday and cleans the bathroom, empties the garbage, and makes my bed. Once a week she even changes ... read more

Milan is beautiful and has many other sights but I remember this Gallery for 3 main things: 1. Got a haircut nearby before going in a tiny little hairdresser in a side alley before going but one of the best cuts I've had anywhere. 2. Leanardos "Portrait of a Musician" there is some dispute as to whether it is really a Da Vinci but very intricate small wood panel painting the thing is compared to the "Last Supper" which is on a church wall and a bit faded (the church was bombed in WWII they had to protect it with sandbags plus the paint he used deteriorated quickly), this looks like it was painted yesterday and you can walk right up to it. There are security guards watching of course but compared to the Mona Lisa ... read more

I still remember being 5 or 6 years old and my dad going to his friends houses to watch Grand Prixs. He would then come and sit on my bed and tell me everything that happened. I loved it. I remember at that time McLaren dominated with Senna and the boys always taking the cake. After travelling around Italy and Greece with Manuela my father met up with me in Milan with his old friend Wilf. We had gathered to watch the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. I can't tell you how excited I was to watch it. I had always wanted to watch a grand prix and now it was becoming a reality. And there was no grand prix that I would rather watch than the Italian home of the Tifosi. We had rented a ... read more

Leaving Rome Having several hours to spend before the departure time at 1:20 am, I was in no hurry to reach Tiburtina station back in Rome. I love night train, as I could sleep anywhere, maybe this is the reason why the Hardy boys decided not to join me for Milan trip. After Edinburgh and Venice, they said they have had enough with anything night transporter. So, with a set of tickets €29.37 for Roma-Milano and €27.37 for Milano-Roma, I am ready to embrace my new adventure in Milan. I tried to walk as slow as possible to the designated train platform, since I knew that I had more than two hours to spend waiting for the train to depart. Spent couple of hours sketching the FS train locomotive, before hearing the Binario changing for Milano ... read more
