Day 21 : Thursday 26 September 2019 : Portofino kayak tour Today was a bit of a free day and the sun is out so we decided to do a kayak tour (€210) back to Portofino in the afternoon. ☹ Not as calm as it has been previously but the water is so clear, inviting and warm. The kayak was great, Portofino was so much quieter but 2 hours later I was seasick!. Yep, on a kayak no less, turns out that the girls weren’t far behind me. Still had a great time. Can’t tell you how beautiful the water is. Had to stop and settle the tummy, so we stop at the bar at Paraggi Bay with beautiful views, what else would you do? But I had to have a coke, no wine ☹. Day 20 : Wednesday 25 September 2019 : Rapallo and Camogli We headed off today in the other direction and went to Rapallo, which for the largest town in the area was much much lovelier that we expected. We wandered through the marina, and eventually jumped on the train to Camogli (€18 rtn). Oh, its so quaint, the cutest little fishing village. But we’ve discovered that shops here close from 1pm – 4pm, the further north we go, the more this occurs. Wandered around, watched the beach, had some lunch (€20) and gelato before heading back. Decided that after the supermarket pasta and sauce was so good, we’d try some from a pasta seller (€ 20) (no idea what those shops are called). Maybe we got a bad one, but it wasn’t as good as the ... read more

We had various times given for the drive today to Rapallo from Google Maps and Gina. Both were avoiding the Autostrada or toll road which would have had us there in no time at all and of course we wouldn’t have seen much of the coastal scenery either, just the inside of many tunnels as the road runs as straight a course as possible high above the towns we would pass through travelling on the SS1. First though we had the gorge to negotiate down to Nice and then we hoped the Gina would have plotted a course avoiding the centre of the city as ... read more

But first, need to check out Monaco/Monte Carlo, being that close. We think breakfast there, as at 12 euros a head at the hotel is a bit rich. We do a bit of touring, stopping, take photos of the harbour and rich houses, jump between the high road and the low road and get to Monaco. Park, take pics of casino, not open until 2, only place near open was expensive so we are quickly back on the road, having an orange for brunch! Get to Rapallo about 4, find the hotel reasonably easily and park nearby. Wander in the hotel and the guy at the desk says bring car here out the front to unload and I'll show you where to park. What he means is we can park on the footpath right out the ... read more
