Ciao, I hope you all are enjoying the holidays and not getting too sucked into consumerism☺ I am having mixed feelings right now. My mom has been trying to get to me on standby, I know, worst time of year. She was supposed to get here on the 21st but I am still waiting and she is still trying. She will get here soon I know. But for now I am sitting in my kitchen alone, knitting, eating walnuts and listening to Eva Cassidy and Simon and Garfunkel. Voglio mia mamma per natale, I want my mom for Christmas. At the same time, I am enjoying my alone time. I have been surrounded by lots of people ever since I moved away to college two and a half years ago. I have grown to love being ... read more

Buon Giorno Tutti! Oggi e molto freddo ma anche bellisimo It has been so cold lately but also very sunny and beautiful. I have so much to catch you all up on but I think I will skim over some and leave some smaller things out. I want to start by telling you about some of the big changes in my life right now. The semester is ending in a few days but I am not ready to leave Italia. I knew I wouldn’t be ready to leave so early so I thought ahead and booked my ticket back in May. I was brainstorming of ways to stay here and things I could do and I thought of Wwoofing. Wwoof is a really awesome program that hooks people up to work on various organic farms all ... read more

Buon Giorno While my wonderful Italian thanksgiving is the main focus of this entry, of course I must add in other events as well. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are students nights here in Viterbo. I think it is ridiculous that they chose Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I mean I still have to wake up at 8am the next morning. Anyway I finally sucked it up and went out on a Tuesday night. We went to Raverse with some of our Italian friends, the only place to dance here. People don’t usually go out until 12 so I thought it was silly that we got there at 10:30, but it was nice to just chill and talk and drink a little with our friends. When people finally started showing up we got up and danced. It was ... read more

Ciao ciao So before I dive into my Harry Potter adventure, I will quickly talk about the potluck Katie planned. She invited everyone we know, Italiani e Americani, over to her house on Thursday night for a potluck. Only about eight people showed up but it was quant and nice. Four of our new Italian girlfriends showed up and brought great food. Then four Americans showed up too. I frantically made apple pie and stuffed bell peppers. The Italians showed up as I was finishing, which intimidated me and brought back memories of cooking in my own kitchen everyday with Daniele and Alessandro, it was tramatic! Ha. So we all talked and hung out for a while. Two other Italians showed up later. We all hung out until about 12. It was a great night and ... read more

Buona Sera tutti A lot has happened since Halloween; nothing too grand, like running from the police but it's the small things that matter anyway. First off, Katie and I have made some lovely friends recently. These are the girls who are our language partners, who came to our Halloween party, who we hung out with at the international day and who, last week invited us to a birthday dinner. On a side note, I totally embarrassed myself at the international day by bringing my homemade pumpkin pie and bags of leftover snacks from the Halloween party. The flyer did say "bring a homemade dish from your country"; it did not say, "Food will be catered". Anyway, yes most of it was catered and on fancy dishes, while I entered with a messy looking pumpkin ... read more

Ciao Tutti, It has been a while since last time I wrote. I think that's a good thing though, it means I have been talking to people more than being on the computer. I will start with a quick sum up of the last couple of weeks. Katie and I wanted to start a women's studies club, but there are no clubs on campus here so we decided to have a general meeting just for Italians and Americans to interact. First we met with two students who organize events on campus, we spoke broken Italians and English with them and managed to organize a meeting. We were a little nervous for the meeting, not sure what to expect. I decided we should play charades, in teams of one Italian and one American, I also brought a ... read more

Ciao Tutti Come State? it's been a while. I am writing today A: because it is a rainy and wonderful day and B: to appreciate all of the nice Italians. Although many in this small town glare at me and judge me everyday, there are some who are wonderful and they deserve some appreciation. About a month ago i went shopping at one of the local stores. It is about 20 ft by 20 ft, its small and the man working there is a doll. On this particular day, I picked out everything I needed and put them into the mini basket and proceeded to check out. When I got to the counter, I realized I didn't bring my wallet, my friend was willing to cover for me but the man said "dopo, dopo" which means ... read more

As you probably gathered from the title, the main focus of this entry is about my new rain-boots, which I proudly bought about a week ago. I had been eyeing this shoe store for about a month now. Not because they have fancy Italian heals in the window like every other shop in town, but because they had an awesome display of rain-boots hanging on hooks outside of the shop. One pair was a beautiful green color that extended past the knee and a good way up the thigh. Of course I wanted these but didn’t think they were practical unless I intended on wading three feet into water on a daily basis. Another pair, with a similar green color caught my eye. They were sturdy and had cool lace holes on the front. There were ... read more

Parte tre Ciao Tutti (hello all) I hope all is well. I just got back from Venice on Sunday night. It is a very beautiful city and I loved it! We arrived Friday afternoon and decided to drop our bags at our hostel that was not in the main part of Venice. We decided to just book the cheapest thing, and that’s what we got. The hostel was a camp ground with trailers and stationary tents. Katie and I shared a tent with two small cots. It was perfect the first night even with the rain, but the second night was cold. I enjoyed being in nature finally. I walked around the grass barefoot and could see a garden just past the gate, I longed to go in and pick fruit but it was locked. Anyway, ... read more
