Ciao ciao. Life in Italia has been good, things have settled down a bit since the first week. There are no longer so many people crowding the streets and obsessing over an extremely gaudy statue. I don't mean any disrespect when i saw these things. Anyway things are settling down, summer is coming to an end and i am falling into a routine. My routine is very different from what it used to be in America. I no longer get up at 5:30am, so to crew, go to school sometimes for 12 hours straight, then come home tired and blame my poor roommates for everything. Now, on a good day, i get up at 7am go for a run, eat something then go to class at 9am. However if dinner goes late, which it often does ... read more

Ciao Tutti, I have been here for about 10 days and so far it is going great! I flew out of LA on monday the 30th and and arrived in Rome on the 31st, they took us on a bus to Viterbo and then to our hotel to drop off our stuff. 10 minutes later, about 10 or 11pm italia time, we walked about 15 minutes to get pizza. I guess they wanted us to get used to late night meals straight away. I was exhausted but also very hungry. We had a wonderful meal at a beautiful restaurant outside, overlooking the town of Viterbo, our new home for four months. They moved us into our housing the next day. I was brought to my apartment in an area called San Sisto. I was introduced to ... read more

Thursday 11.2.210 day 120 Thermal springs We went to the Thermal springs today the water was so hot and felt so good it smells a bit due to the sulphur but it was very relaxing. Unfortunately there were some ignorant Italian men there who decide that they would divert all the water from our spring to threes so that we could not have any and they got all the water. As this was on public and everyone had an equal right to the water and we where there before them it seem very rude to us that they tough the deserved all the water and us none. It really made me drop my option of Italians. ... read more

Tuesday 9.2.210 day 118 Cerveteri Necropolis We planned to go to Rome today and got up early and went to the buss but it left 20 min early so we missed it and the next one was 2 hours away not giving us enough time in Rome so we will go to Rome tomorrow instead. We went to lake Bolsena and had a look around the forests near the lake and then went on to lake Bracciano where we had lunch by the lake and there was swans in the lake. We then drove on to the seaside town of Cerveteri. In the 6 century BC this was one of the most populated and culturally rich towns in the Mediterranean. The Necropolis, a city of the dead, is a network of streets lined with tumulus tombs ... read more

Monday 8.2.210 day 117 The village of Sorianoa where we are staying is a communist town and there is a siren that sounds 3 times a day that can be heard though the whole village it is at 8 am to start work 12 midday for lunch and 5 pm to stop work. Today we went to Montefiascone a pretty town perched on the edge of a defunct volcanic crater it has splendid views of lake Bolsena. It has the world’s second largest dome (st Peters in the Vatican is the largest). It also has fantastic wine that we have had a few bottles of over the last few days. We then followed the crater along Lago di Bolsena Europe’s largest volcanic lake we stopped on the side of the lake at the town of Bolsena ... read more

Saturday 6.2.210 day 115 Sorianoa a little village near Virerbro We went to Herculaneum were Mt Vesuvius covered in Lava. It is a suburb of Napoli. We did not go in as it was very cold and raining but we had a look over the fence. We then drove on to our resort at Sorianoa a little village near Virerbro. Sorianoa is also near a volcano but it is extinct. We are staying in the only hotel in the town and it only had 20 rooms so at any time there is only about 4o tourists in the town. We went shopping and got some food for dinner and none of the people in the village speak English and seemed very amused that tourist where shopping in the village most of the people who stay at ... read more

September 1, 2009 Longest day ever! Waking up this morning, refreshed and ready to go, is only a distant memory in my mind… I would have never dreamed it was even close to possible to do so much in one day! But it seems to me that anything and everything is posible in Italia, and that is what I plan on doing while I am here! We woke up and had breakfast at the hotel, I think called the Baletti Palace or something like that….and met the rest of the USAC students who had arrived at 3 o’clock in the morning from LAX, having missed their Frankfurt connection by less than 15 minutes and spending 10 hours in Germany at the airport waiting for the next flight to Roma…today was so exhausting for me having ... read more

August 29, 2009 When I got to Rome this morning, our plane made it over thirty minutes early….6:55 am, Italian time, and already 24 degrees Celsius (that’s like 78 fahrenheit!) I got an expensive taxi (65 euro = 100 US dollars) from Roma Fiumicini (sp??) and the cabbie dropped me off at the wrong hotel… I guess that’s bound to happen though when there are 4 hotels in a row, all named after the street they’re on… So it was no big deal and I got to the Hotel Flavia around 8 am, and they were nice enough to let me check in four hours early. I was worried about how I would get in touch with Natalie, a girl from South Carolina, that I was supposed to be meeting at the hotel and traveling with. ... read more

Ok, so I have been here for 6 days now and have so much to write about! I've been keeping a journal and am just planning on typing it out word for word as it is.... This is my entry from the day(s) I was traveling from Denver International to Rome... August 28, 2009 We woke up early to catch our okances out of DIA. My brother Trey was headed to Kansas City, MO to be baptized that weekend by our grandparents (hope it went well!). His flight left an hour before my own and fortunately we were in the same terminal, and my big brother was able to drop me off at the currency exchange before going to his gate. Saying goodbye to the parents was easy enough, we were all so excited for my ... read more
