Well, I took a two night trip to Galway (the city of Tribes) in the Republic which is considered the art center of Ireland and called one of the sexiest cities in Europe (which is good to know). It is not a very large city but there are a few things to see and more outside the city. I enjoyed just walking by the sea and walking through the town square (Eyre Square) which is home to a monument of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy who visited Galway shortly before his death. On my second day, I went to the Aran Islands (to be more exact, I went to the largest of the three islands, Inishmor). On the Aran Islands, everything is in Gaelic and everyone speaks Gaelic and English. For example, I stopped at a store ... read more

Ireland -Doolin, Aran Islands & Cliffs of Moher Monday 24th & Tuesday 25th March Doolin is set right on the west coast of Ireland and right near both the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. It’s a great spot to stay - not only is it beaufitul countryside, but its close to a lot of things to see and do. The landscape is entitrely different from Killarney but equally lovely. Its more open, rugged and farm-like, yet the mountains and the coast line are right there also. The villages are not so far apart, Liscannor is only about 9km away, this is a sweet little town set on the river/ocean(?) and they are famous for the gorgeous Liscannor stone with which so many Irish houses and walls are made from. We are staying at Doolins ... read more

Our last night in Dublin was really exciting and fun. Needless to say we were all a little overtired the next morning. But our time in Dublin was over and it was time to go to our home for the next five weeks, Galway. On the way we took a tour of the Strokestown House and Famine Museum in Roscommon. The grounds of the estate were very nice but there was a lot of history to the place, so I was all over that. We toured the house which was extremely well kept from its nineteenth century use. The family who owned the estate had lived there until WWI but had only lived in a certain part of the house, leaving the other rooms undisturbed. The rooms were great, very unique and well preserved. The servant's ... read more

This past week, we had our program sponsored tour of Ireland. All of our lodging, travel, and entrance fees were paid for by Central. We had to pay for our own food, but the first hostel had a really nice kitchen and a Tesco just down the street, so we saved a lot of money making our own meals. We went to Ireland because it is a Celtic nation like Wales, and the two countries share a lot of history and culture. The landscape is very similar, as well as the food and overall culture. We spent the first part of the tour in Galway and the last couple days in Dublin. This entry is about the first three days of our trip. We got up on Saturday morning and took a bus to Holyhead on ... read more

My last few days in Dublin were great! I toured Christ's Church Cathedral. Beautiful! I also checked out an exhibit on early viking life in Dublin. My last day in Dublin before heading out West I went to The Guinness Brewery! It was AWESOME! When you finish the self guided tour, you go up to the SkyBar where you get a free pint of the freshest Guinness in the world to enjoy overlooking the entire city! On Friday the 7th I caught a bus from Dublin to Galway. The trip, normally about 3:40, took almost five hours (we had to switch buses halfway there because the door broke on the first one) but other than that, the trip was fine. I actually got to talking with Adam, a fellow traveller from Canada, who was making his ... read more

This is my first blog entry on any site. I never thought to put my experiences up for the world to see but then I realized how much I enjoyed reading other people's adventures and cannot wait to have more of my own. Also, I don't expect anyone to really read any of this. So for my own posterity, why not? I spent six weeks in Ireland this past summer on a study session with the USAC program through the University of Nevada. We spent four days in Dublin, one in the Wicklow Mts., and the rest of the time in Galway City. I was the most apprehensive I had ever been in my life prior to this trip. I had never been overseas, had never been away from my family for more than two or ... read more

So this is our first blog entry and it'll be short because im hardly fit to compose sentences after last night. It was a great night. Seamus brought a few from our team out for dinner in Cookes (yum!!). After we were nicely dined and wined we headed to Buskers to join Jacinta and anyone else who had showed up. Well! By god was i embarrassed we had reserved an area! The bar was practically empty! Down by the back where we had reserved a few had gathered and it quickly filled up. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to come out. Really appreciate it. Unfortunately things got a bit wild then with bottle of champagne being bought for us (thanks girls!) and then someone handed me a sambuca! and its that sambuca that im ... read more
