So where did I leave off? Oh yes, Thursday night wasn’t anything too exciting. The four of us finally did some hardcore grocery shopping. I got some pasta, pre-made Hawaiian pizza, chicken, Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie (7 Euro but totally worth it!), butter, jam, bread, turkey, cheese, tea and honey (for my sore throat, of course!)...it was quite successful! We planned on taking the bus back since it is a pretty long walk with such heavy bags (that’s what I get for getting a huge bag of potatoes!) but the bus was taking too long so we took a taxi instead and figured it would be cheaper. It was probably only one euro cheaper but I honestly think it depends on the driver you get because I’ve heard people of getting all different rates ... read more

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! I just got here, yet I feel like I’ve been here for sooo long. I’m finally starting to get over the homesickness. I mean I do miss all of you but at the same time I’m so busy I almost don’t have time to think about it! I hate that it is so much of a pain to call home though :( Anyway, well Monday we had orientation pretty much all day. I was still so extremely tired and jet lagged and just wanted to go back to sleep the entire day. I couldn’t figure out the shower so I had no hot water and just felt gross all day. We got a “Sketchy” tour of the campus from Mark after orientation and it was pretty funny. That night the ... read more

I MADE IT! After my parents were teary-eyed leaving me at security (and after taking plenty of embarrassing pictures! haha love ya both), my adventure finally began. Security was quick and painless and we finally made it to the gate. Oh, and on a side note, my checked bags were not overweight, thank goodness! We finally boarded the plane around 5:55pm (EST) and the plane was HUGE! Forty-seven rows with two seats on the left, two on the right, and four in the middle. I popped 2 Dramamine when we boarded and by the time we were taking off I was quite drowsy. Although I slept for about an hour (through take-off, surprisingly), the rest of the flight I just could not get comfortable. Plus the bright screen of the TV (and the lights on the ... read more

After seeing U2 in Dublin the night before, you would think that the rest of a three day trip to Ireland would be a disappointment, but that wasn't the case at all. Having only three days planned in Ireland, it was a rush to fit in as much as possible. Sunday, June 26th, 2005 included a drive from Dublin to Blarney with an unplanned side trip through the city of Cork first while attempting to locate the small village of Blarney. Cork is not a city in Ireland that is ammenable to driving. After negotiating roundabouts in Ireland, this city has a strange preference for stop lights, but they are not your normal stop lights. The lights for the east-west intersection flash red for example, while the lights for the north-south interection flash yellow. This ambiguity ... read more

We have been working a lot so we haven't done too many day trips, we had one weekend off together so we went to a village called Buttevant. The plan was to take a taxi to another town to see a donkey sanctuary. Unfortunately, the only cab driver in town wasn't around so we spent the day walking around but we found an abbey and a castle, as well as a church. We walked along the main road which is scary, they are so narrow and there is no shoulder, and stone walls line the road. So for the way back we decided to cut through a field, but it was a potato field that had been plowed and was really muddy. Once we made it back into town we found a walking trail that would ... read more

We are back. We feel a mixture of joy, sadness, disorientation and other feelings we haven't recognised yet! But we are trying to stay positive and keep alive all the things learnt, felt and lived. We know, we have been very lazy the last 2 months but we promise to upload the pictures of Argentina and Brazil as soon as possible. So the dream is over.....for now. Thank you for accompanying us for the last 8 months. Thanks expecially to those who wrote messages both publicly and privately through the blog. Looking forward now to see you for real.... read more

After our many adventures over the past two years, our time in the United States has drawn to a close. After an incredibly busy passed few weeks Fiona and I had to say goodbye to the great friends we have made and the life we created over here. Many people opened their lives to us, but none more than Leanne, Andy and little Devin who really changed the time we spent in Jacksonville. When it came time to say our farewells there were many tears and lots of hugging, and Fiona was a little upset too...... Already it seems like the last two years were a bit of a dream (more so for me than Fiona), and I would be lying if I said I was looking forward to rejoining the Australian workforce, but it has ... read more

I'm working like a blue arsed fly! It's great when you have a plan and ambition! I know someone living in Korea! Sounds like it might be a nice place to visit. Maybe I need a theme to my travels? I'm self employed so my year is a flexible timeframe. It depends on funds and opportunities that arise. I'm def up for doing voluntary work and living in a place for a while. I'm also up for circumnavigating the globe at speed. ... read more

I have just joined travel blog and I'm just checking it out. My travel plans are not til next July, but it's a long awaited for journey. I have practically turned green when I've heard about someone doing a round the world trip or travelling for a year, so now it's my turn!!! At the moment, I'm saving, saving, saving. Preparing... I bought my super duper ruck sack a few months ago and I've started collecting the contents since. Plans.. well to be honest, as some kind man pointed out. It's not really going around the world cause all I want to do is go straight back to Langkawi island in Malaysia! and take it from there!... read more

Left the UK via a ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare. It rained for us on our last day so that was a fine farewell. The ferry is a much more relaxed way of travelling, you can walk around, drink pints of Guiness and generally move unlike a plane. It was a smooth sailing with no wind and only a little bit of swell rocking the boat. Arrived in Ireland and picked up our hire car. Travelled through Waterford, then Tipperary, Fogarty lands and then down to Cork. Kissed the Blarney stone at Blarney Castle. I dont know if we got the gift of the gab, or an ulcer of the gab. I'd hate to think how many people have slbbered over that thing. The weather was lovely, warm, sunny and blue skies. Will pay dearly for ... read more
